It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, Barbara Avis. Born on May 10, 1960, in Oakland, California, Barbara left us peacefully on April 8, 2026, surrounded by loved ones at the Encompass Rehabilitation Home.
Barbara Avis was a woman of exceptional kindness and warmth, whose life was a testament to the power of love, resilience, and service. She was the cherished daughter of Richard and Dorothy Andrews and sister to the late Dennis Clemens, whose memories she treasured throughout her life.
Barbara's life was beautifully intertwined with that of her devoted husband, Lanney Avis, with whom she shared 43 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they nurtured a family built on the foundations of love and understanding. She is survived by her two sons, Benson and Noah Avis, who inherited her compassion and perseverance. Her legacy extends to her precious grandchildren, Michael Jameson and Autumn Jones, and her adored great-grandchildren, Avery, Haddy, Aleyah, and Bella,Lyrica, Eva, and Amara who brought her immeasurable joy and pride.
A woman of remarkable intellect and empathy, Barbara pursued her education with dedication, graduating from Bethany Nazarene College before earning her master's degree in addiction counseling from the University of Southern Indiana. Her career as a substance abuse counselor spanned 37 years, during which she touched countless lives with her unwavering commitment to helping others find their path to healing and recovery.
Barbara was also a devoted member of the Nazarene First Church of Christ in Evansville, Indiana, where her faith and love for music found a home in the church choir. Her melodious voice was a source of solace and inspiration to many, just as her radiant smile could brighten any day. Her love for gardening, cooking, and camping with her family are memories that will forever be cherished by those who shared in her vibrant life.
Her gentle spirit and the ease with which she connected with others left an indelible mark on everyone she met. Barbara's ability to make others feel loved and appreciated was a gift that enriched the lives of her family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know her.
A service to celebrate Barbara's life will be held on April 14, 2026, Northwoods Church 9920 North Green River road Evansville Indiana at 7:00 PM. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at Encompass Health Rehabilitation and to all family and friends for their kind words and unwavering support during this difficult time.
Barbara Avis's life was a beacon of love and compassion, and her memory will continue to inspire all who knew her. As we mourn her passing, we also celebrate the beautiful legacy she leaves behind—a legacy defined by love, kindness, and an unyielding commitment to helping others.
