Barbara Ann Unangst

In loving memory of Barbara Ann Unangst, who was born on August 18, 1935, in the quaint town of Foosland, Illinois. She was a cherished daughter to Ralph and Lucy Dell Shields. Barbara departed this life on May 13, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and cherished memories. Barbara was a devoted wife to her beloved husband, Ronald Unangst, with whom she celebrated a lifetime of love and companionship since their marriage on October 23, 1955. Together, they were blessed with three sons: Richard (Kim), Duane (Kathy), and Nicholas (Kathryn). Her family was her greatest joy, and she took immense pride in her role as a grandmother to ten adored grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in her heart. Preceded in death by her loving parents, her dear sisters Kay Jensen and Betty Thompson, and her cherished husband Ronald, Barbara's spirit lives on in the hearts of her surviving family and friends. Her warmth, resilience, and unwavering devotion to her family were the cornerstones of her life. Her compassionate nature touched everyone she met, leaving an indelible mark on their lives. Barbara dedicated her professional talents as a church secretary at First Emmanuel Methodist and later at St. John’s United Methodist. Her dedication to her community extended beyond her professional life, as she generously volunteered at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, Illinois. In retirement, she and Ronald shared their time and talents with NOMADS, reflecting their shared commitment to service. An avid quilter and painter, Barbara found joy in expressing her creativity and sharing her works with those around her. Her life was a testament to the power of love, faith, and community. She will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate to know her, as her life was a blessing and her memory a treasure; loved beyond words and missed beyond measure. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, August 14, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, located at 2900 Sheridan Road, St. Louis, Missouri. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to a charity of your choice in memory of Barbara.
