Barbara Ann (Pennie) Bogans, a beacon of warmth, kindness, and unconditional love, passed away unexpectedly on June 19, 2026, at Fairfield Post Acute Care. Born on March 15, 1951, in Blythe, California, Barbara's vibrant spirit touched countless lives during her 75 years. She was the cherished daughter of Jimmie and Beatrice Kathryn Bogans, who predeceased her, alongside her daughter Larrena Osorio, brother Clarence Bogans, sisters Sadie Barnett, Gloria Dean Glaze, Virginia Nell Thomas, Bobbie Lee Campbell, Dorothy Mack, and four precious great-grandchildren.
A devoted mother, Barbara is survived by her beloved children, Pastor Michael E. Jones, Larry D. Henderson, and Cortini Maiten-Jones. Her legacy is further carried on by her grandchildren, Desiree Houston, Pennie Jones, Janiece McDowell, Rachael Jones, Airiona Henderson, Jazmine Maiten, Brianna Jones, Lexi Henderson, Christopher Jolly, Rolena Osorio, and Javontaye Osorio, as well as 20 great-grandchildren who were the light of her life. Barbara's two surviving sisters, Sandra (Monk) Bogans and Janie Smith, along with her brother-in-law Ronnie Smith and lifetime friend Bill (Willie) Jones, will forever cherish the moments shared with her. Numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members also mourn her passing.
Barbara's educational journey began at Palo Verde High School and culminated with a master's degree in accounting from National University of San Diego. Her professional path was marked by a deep commitment to service, working as a social service supervisor for 10 years in San Bernardino County before concluding her career as an employment specialist in Contra Costa County, retiring in 2015.
Beyond her professional achievements, Barbara was a pillar within the GBY Ministry in Los Cruces, New Mexico, where her faith and compassion resonated deeply with those around her. An avid reader with a penchant for knitting, Barbara found joy in simple pleasures—whether it was catching a film with Monk and Rolena or a leisurely mall stroll with her sister Janie. Her favorite pastime was studying the Bible, a testament to her unwavering faith and quest for understanding.
Barbara's life was a living testament to her belief that there were no strangers, only friends she had yet to meet. Her home was a sanctuary of love, often filled with the laughter of children whom she lovingly treated with gifts and affection. Her nurturing spirit extended beyond her family, as she embraced friends as family and showered them with the same love and care.
Her infectious laughter and joyful heart were most evident when she was with her sisters, especially during impromptu car rides filled with singing and dancing to oldies but goodies. Barbara's ability to love unconditionally and her affectionate nature left an indelible mark on everyone she encountered.
As we celebrate Barbara's life, we remember her not only for her achievements and the roles she filled but for the love she shared, the lives she touched, and the legacy of kindness she leaves behind. Her spirit lives on in the hearts of those who knew her, and her memory will forever inspire us to live with the same grace, generosity, and compassion that she embodied every day of her life.
