Barbara Ann (Lane) Armstrong
July 27, 1951 — June 2, 2026
It is with heavy hearts and profound respect that we announce the passing of Barbara Ann (Lane) Armstrong, a beloved matriarch, cherished friend, and devoted community member, who departed this life on June 2, 2026. Barbara was born on July 27, 1951, in XXXXXXX, Missouri, to the late Sherman and Ollie Mae (Sugar Pie) Lane. She was a beacon of love and strength, whose legacy will forever remain in the hearts of those fortunate enough to have known her.
Barbara's life was a testament to unwavering love and selfless devotion. She married her soulmate, James Armstrong, and together they shared a beautiful 56-year love story, a bond that remained unbreakable through the years. Barbara was the heart of her family, beginning as a caretaker for her siblings and extending her nurturing spirit to her children, grandchildren, and the wider community. Her daughters, Shantel Lane and N'Kenge Williams (Ronnie), and her grandchildren, Briauna White, Brandon White, Terrence White, Carvon Richardson, Zoey Richardson, and Andrea Richardson, were the light of her life. Her family was her world, and she never hesitated to offer a listening ear or a few "tough words" when needed.
Barbara's enduring friendships are a testament to her loving and genuine nature. Her friends and family cherished her for her quick wit, sharp comebacks, and little quirky sayings like, "You ain't been around the teacup far enough to find the handle" or "Even a bird has to come down to the ground to eat." Her wisdom, humor, and strength left a lasting impact on all who knew her.
A proud graduate of Malden High School, Barbara's intelligence and gifts were evident from a young age. She graduated at just 16 and was awarded a full scholarship to Lincoln University. However, she chose to stay with her family, demonstrating her deep-seated love and commitment to those she held dear. Her career with the City of St. Louis spanned over 15 years, after which she continued to serve her community in numerous capacities, including as the Manager of the Neighborhood Polling Site, a role she held with pride and dedication.
Barbara's life was deeply rooted in her faith. A lifetime member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, she dedicated herself to serving Christ from an early age. Her commitment to faith, humbleness, and family was the foundation of her life and the values she instilled in her loved ones.
Barbara's legacy is carried on by her husband, daughters, grandchildren, brother Bruce Lane, sister Jo Ann Lewis, and special nieces Kisie Davidson and Victoria Wilson (Tyrone). She is preceded in death by her parents Sherman and Ollie Mae Lane, her brothers Jimmy, Larry, Roy, Percival, and Todd, sisters Georgetta and Nell Jean, grandchildren Alan and N'Tera, and her beloved Aunt Rosetta Sims.
The family invites all who wish to honor and celebrate Barbara's life to a service on June 20, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, 2912 St Louis Ave, St. Louis, MO 63106. In this time of sorrow, we find solace in the grace of God and the love that Barbara shared with us all. The family of Barbara Armstrong extends heartfelt gratitude for the kindness shown during this difficult time. Though we loved her deeply, we find comfort in knowing she is now embraced by God's eternal love.
Barbara Ann (Lane) Armstrong will be remembered for her love, laughter, and unyielding spirit. May her soul rest in peace, and may her legacy continue to inspire those she leaves behind.
