August 6, 1944 – March 19, 2026 It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Barbara Ann Carter, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She departed this world on March 19, 2026, after a courageous battle with breast cancer, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering strength. Barbara was born on August 6, 1944, in the vibrant city of Detroit, Michigan, to her cherished parents, Mary and Walter Carter. Her early years were spent in the heart of Detroit, where she attended the city’s public schools and laid the foundation for a life dedicated to education and community service. A devoted educator, Barbara found her true calling as a school teacher. She had a profound love for teaching, a passion that touched the lives of countless students throughout her career. Her dedication to education was evident in every lesson she taught, and her classroom was a place where knowledge and compassion flourished. Beyond her professional life, Barbara was a woman of many talents and interests. She was an esteemed organ player at the Wings of Love Baptist Church, where she shared her musical gifts and was an active member of the church community. Her love for reading was well known, and she spent countless hours immersed in books, a pastime she cherished deeply. Yet, perhaps her greatest joy came from spending precious moments with her grandchildren, who were the light of her life. Barbara's family was her pride and joy. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Tamara Carter, and her loving son, Dwight Carter. Her sister, Georgia, who shared a lifetime of memories with her, survives her, along with fifteen nieces and twenty nephews, all of whom held a special place in her heart. The family tree Barbara so lovingly nurtured continues to grow with her five grandchildren and one great-grandchild, who will carry forward her legacy of love and resilience. Barbara was predeceased by her cherished parents, Mary and Walter Carter, her beloved sister, Mary Louise Carter, and her dear brother, Van Carter. Though their physical presence is missed, their spirits continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved them. Family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by Barbara are invited to celebrate her remarkable life on April 7, 2026, at 11:30 AM. The service will be held at the Wings of Love Baptist Church, located at 17133 John R St, Detroit, MI 48203. It will be a time to honor her memory, share stories, and find comfort in the community she cherished. Barbara Ann Carter lived a life full of grace, compassion, and relentless love.
