Barbara A. West: A Life of Love, Creativity, and Community Barbara A. West, a beloved matriarch and pillar of her community, peacefully passed away on September 6, 2026, at the age of 82. Born on April 16, 1944, in Childersburg, Alabama, to William Carl and Alice McLaney, Barbara's life was a testament to love, creativity, and unwavering devotion to family and community. Barbara spent an extraordinary 66 years married to her devoted husband, Ellis "Ralph" West. Together, they built not only a successful life and family but also a thriving construction business, R & B Construction, which served Pine Mountain Valley and the surrounding communities. Their partnership was a beautiful blend of Ralph's dedication and Barbara's creative genius. Barbara's talents shone brightly, particularly in her work designing and building enchanting Christmas scenes for the Callaway Gardens Fantasy in Lights, as well as for the cities of Pine Mountain and Hamilton and various clients nationwide. A woman of profound faith and warmth, Barbara was known for her genuine kindness and generosity. She had a remarkable gift for making people feel welcome and included, a testament to her loving nature and commitment to community. Her intelligence and business acumen were matched by a heart full of compassion and care for others. Barbara's love extended to her family, who were the center of her world. She is survived by her children, Donna Hughs (Terry) of Snellville, GA, Ellis West Jr. (Angel) of Pine Mountain, GA, and Bobbi Sue Stemple (Ron) of Pine Mountain, GA; her cherished grandchildren, Jason Hughes (Carrie), James Hughes (Jordan), Timothy West (Christyn), and Kyle West (Heather); and 13 great-grandchildren. Her beloved sister, Anne Burdette of Atlanta, as well as many other extended family members and friends, also survive her. She was predeceased by her husband Ralph, her parents, and her brother Bill McLaney. Barbara was happiest when surrounded by her family, riding her beloved horses, and caring for the pets she adored. Her legacy of love and creativity will be carried on by her family and the countless lives she touched. A private funeral ceremony will be held to honor Barbara's life. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to a charity of one's choice, reflecting Barbara's spirit of giving. The West family extends their deepest gratitude to the staff at Mountainside of Warm Springs for their compassionate care and support during Barbara's final days. Barbara A. West will be remembered as a beacon of love, creativity, and kindness. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
