With heavy hearts, the family of Ayuneta Maxine Ruark announces her peaceful passing on February 1, 2026, at the Integers Heart Hospital in Oklahoma City. Born on May 27, 1957, in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, Ayuneta—affectionately known as "Skeet" to those who cherished her—lived a vibrant and spirited life.
Ayuneta was the beloved daughter of Walter Samuel Whitmire and Ida Nell Ingram, who predeceased her, along with her brother, Robert Earl Whitmire. She is survived by her devoted children, son Walter Lucas Hicks of Ninnekah, OK, and daughter Danell Dea’Liesse of Oklahoma City. Her legacy of love also extends to her siblings: Leon Glenn of Mustang, OK; Bill Whitmire of Hinton, OK; Tsianina Garrett of Blanchard, OK; and Jodon Moore of Anadarko, OK. Ayuneta was also cherished by numerous relatives and friends who mourn her loss while celebrating the joyous memories she leaves behind.
Ayuneta graduated from Chickasha High School, where she cultivated a passion for learning that would follow her throughout life. Her career journey took her from serving as an assistant manager at Long John Silver's to a role at Gabriel Shocks Plant. She later returned to the culinary world as an assistant manager at Taco Mayo, where her infectious personality and unwavering dedication left a lasting impression.
A woman of diverse interests, Ayuneta was deeply connected to her Native American roots, finding beauty and inspiration in the traditions and histories of her ancestors. Her home was a vibrant tapestry of life, adorned with plants that reflected her nurturing spirit and appreciation for nature's gifts. A creative artisan, she found joy in crafting intricate Diamond Art pieces, which she lovingly shared with friends and family, spreading beauty and happiness.
Ayuneta was also an enthusiastic angler, known for her adventurous spirit and willingness to cast her line in pursuit of the big catch which happened to be a friend that she caught in the mouth..which reinforces the fact that there’s no talking while fishing Her son Luke fondly recalls her as a talented and mischievous jokester, known for her playful pranks and light-hearted humor, particularly at his expense. Her laughter and joy were infectious, and her stories will be treasured.
A grave sideceremony will be held to honor Ayuneta's life and legacy, a time for her loved ones to gather in remembrance and gratitude. Will be helt at Fairlawn Cemetery north of Chickasha Airport Chickasha,OK
