It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Avrius Joseph, affectionately known as Joe, who departed this life on May 10, 2026, at the age of 66. Born on April 16, 1960, in Port-Au-Prince, Haiti, Joe was a beacon of positivity and warmth to all who had the privilege to know him.
Joe was the beloved son of the late Golber Thomas and Julia Joseph and was predeceased by his cherished brother, Randolph Joseph. He is survived by his devoted wife, Kimyetta, with whom he shared a beautiful life since their marriage on August 1, 2008, in Nassau, Bahamas. Together, they built a loving family that includes two daughters, Dalida and Nia, and two sons, Jean-Benard and Maxime, who is married to Courtney. Joe was a proud grandfather to his precious granddaughter, Amelia, who brought him endless joy and laughter.
Joe's career was marked by dedication and hard work. He served with distinction at US Foods, where he worked until his well-earned retirement in 2021. His colleagues remember him for his unwavering work ethic and his ability to bring people together, fostering a sense of camaraderie and friendship.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Joe was a man of diverse interests. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life, such as working as a mechanic, tending to his garden, and traveling to new places. His love for hosting backyard parties was legendary, where he brought people together with his infectious laughter and spirited conversations. Joe was a family man, a devoted friend, and someone who always found time to lend a helping hand or offer a listening ear.
Joe's kindred spirit and welcoming personality were his hallmarks. To him, there was no such thing as a stranger; he loved everyone and treated all with kindness and respect. His family and friends remember him as a gentle soul who spread love and positivity wherever he went.
He leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion, cherished by his surviving family members, including his brother Gilbert Thomas, brother-in-law Arnold and wife Nicole Thomas, sister-in-law Keisha and husband Shawn Townsel, his extended family of nieces, nephews, and a host of friends who were like family to him.
A service to celebrate Joe's remarkable life will be held on May 20, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the James H. Cole Funeral Home, located at 16100 Schaefer Hwy, Detroit, MI 48235. Family, friends, and all who were touched by Joe's kindness are invited to attend and pay their respects.
In honoring Joe's memory, let us carry forward his legacy of love, generosity, and joy. Though he may no longer walk among us, his spirit will continue to inspire and guide us, reminding us always to cherish each moment and each other.
Rest in peace, dear Joe. You will forever remain in our hearts.
