July 1, 1955 – September 18, 2026
Avis Marie Crawford, aged 71, passed away peacefully at her home after a valiant battle with Lupus. Born on July 1, 1955, in the bustling city of Manhattan, New York, Avis was a beloved daughter of the late Luis A. Crawford and Ollie Dean Crawford. She was a cherished sister to the late Carlton Y. Crawford and is survived by her sister, Leslie Crawford-Lanclos.
Avis was a devoted mother to her two children, Tikiya Crawford and Tyrone Crawford, who were the light of her life. Her commitment to family was evident in every aspect of her being, and she instilled in them the values of kindness, resilience, and integrity.
Growing up in New York, Avis attended Mount Vernon High School before transferring to Street Academy in Harlem, where she graduated. Her early career began at the United States Post Office as a mail clerk. However, her compassionate nature and desire to impact young lives led her to a fulfilling career as a counselor for young adults in group homes throughout Westchester County. Her work touched many lives, providing guidance and support to those who needed it most.
Avis was known for her quick wit, warm smile, and sharp tongue, qualities that endeared her to many. Her presence was a comfort to those around her, and she had a remarkable ability to connect with people from all walks of life. Music played a significant role in Avis's life; she had an impressive record collection that would be the envy of any DJ, and it served as a source of solace and joy.
The family will hold a private funeral ceremony to honor Avis's life and legacy. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Lupus Research Alliance Inc., in memory of Avis's courageous fight against Lupus.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to all those who have supported them during this time of loss. Avis's spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her, and her legacy will continue to inspire kindness and compassion.
May she rest in peace, knowing she was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed.
