Autry Augusta Allen, Sr.

January 27, 1934 — May 10, 2026

In the gentle embrace of family and faith, Autry Augusta Allen, Sr., aged 92, peacefully departed this life on May 10, 2026, at his home. Born on January 27, 1934, in Lubbock, Texas, Autry was a beacon of strength and humility, a man whose legacy is woven into the lives of those he touched. Autry was the beloved son of Daniel E. Allen and Pearl Williams Allen, who instilled in him values of hard work and kindness. His formative years were spent in Lubbock, where he attended Holladay Elementary and Washington High School, laying the foundation for a lifetime of dedication and service. In 1956, Autry married his cherished partner, Jeanette Warren, a union that blossomed from a chance encounter in a bean field. Their love story, spanning nearly seven decades, was one of mutual respect and unwavering support, witnessed by their lifelong friends Lloyd Allen and Eurelene Warren Beasley. Together, they raised a family that became the center of Autry's world. Autry's career began at Harvey's Aluminum Plant in The Dalles, Oregon, where he demonstrated relentless dedication, driving 80 miles each day to provide for his family. His work ethic and skill earned him a respected position at Esco Corporation, where he worked as a molder until his retirement in 1996. Despite his short stature, Autry was a giant in his commitment to his loved ones, ensuring they were always cared for and supported. After retirement, Autry discovered a passion for scrapping metal, a pastime that brought him joy and camaraderie. Yet, it was his love for horses that truly captivated him. Whether at the county fair in Tillamook, Portland Meadows, or during trips to Seattle, Autry found excitement and connection at the racetrack. His ability to read the racing form with the zeal of a scholar was a testament to his indomitable spirit. In 2025, Autry reaffirmed his faith and was baptized at the Greater Mt. Gillard Baptist Church, a community that embraced him as family. This spiritual journey was a testament to his enduring capacity for growth and transformation. Autry leaves behind a legacy of love, survived by his devoted wife, Jeanette, his sons Tony and Kirkland Sr., and his daughters Arneta and Blanca. He was a proud grandfather to 14 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, each carrying a piece of his heart. His goddaughter, LaSeda Thompson, and special friend, Ferral Davis, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and friends, will cherish his memory forever. A service to honor Autry's life will be held on May 28, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Skyline Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 4101 N.W. Skyline Blvd, Portland, OR 97229. As we gather to celebrate his remarkable journey, we extend heartfelt gratitude to the Signature Hospice Team for their compassionate care, and to all who offered prayers, support, and kindness during this time of reflection. Autry Augusta Allen, Sr.'s life was a testament to the power of love, perseverance, and community. His legacy endures in the hearts of those he touched, a guiding light for generations to come. May his soul rest in eternal peace, knowing he was deeply loved and appreciated.
