It is with a mixture of sadness and gratitude for the time we shared that we announce the passing of Audrey Burton, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, who left this world on April 27, 2026, following a courageous battle with lung cancer. Audrey was born on May 6, 1946, in Independence, Kansas, to Jacob and Alice Lamb, who instilled in her values that would guide her throughout her life. Audrey's journey was one of dedication, honesty, and kindness. She spent 35 fulfilling years serving her community at Mercy Hospital, where she was known not only for her steadfast work ethic but also for her unwavering honesty. Audrey was a person who believed in speaking her mind, a trait that earned her respect and admiration from both colleagues and patients alike. Her blunt yet caring demeanor was a testament to her integrity and genuine nature. Outside of her professional life, Audrey was an avid lover of the great outdoors. She found peace and happiness in the simple pleasures of fishing and taking leisurely walks, activities that allowed her to connect with nature and reflect on life's beauty. Audrey was an active member of the Bible Holiness Church, where she found spiritual nourishment and a community of like-minded individuals who cherished her company and contributions. Her faith was an integral part of her life, providing her with strength and solace. Family was at the core of Audrey's heart. She was predeceased by her dear husband Raymond Burton, her parents Jacob and Alice Lamb, and her cherished grandchildren, Cody Burton and Kimberly Burton. Audrey is survived by her loving son, Ramon Burton, and her grandchildren, Cody Burton and Kimberly Mahlum, who were her pride and joy. She was also blessed with two great-grandchildren, who brought light and laughter into her life. Audrey's legacy is one of love, honesty, and resilience. She touched the lives of many with her straightforward yet compassionate approach to life and will be deeply missed by all who knew her. A service celebrating Audrey's life will be held on May 1, 2026, at 1:00 PM at St. Mary’s Church, located at 600 N. Liberty St, Independence, MO 64050. Following the service, the family invites all to join them for a potluck to share memories and celebrate the life of an extraordinary woman. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to local lung cancer research foundations in Audrey's memory, honoring her fight and spirit. Audrey Burton's legacy will forever remain in the hearts of those she touched with her honesty and love. She leaves behind a world that was brighter and more honest for having had her in it.
