June 18, 1931 - June 24, 2026
With heavy hearts but cherished memories, we announce the peaceful passing of Audrey I. Blackwell, a beloved member of our community and a cherished matriarch to her family. Audrey departed this world on the morning of June 24, 2026, at the age of 93, surrounded by love and the gentle comfort of Brown County Health & Living Community in Nashville.
Born on June 18, 1931, in the quaint town of Columbus, Indiana, Audrey was the cherished daughter of Ed and Zelma Stanford. Her early life was filled with the warmth and vibrancy of family, sharing her childhood with her siblings Edna Mae, Catherine, and Frieda, who have all since passed but were always held dear in her heart.
Audrey's life was a tapestry woven with love and resilience. On July 31, 1948, she married her first love, Billy W. Fitzgerald, in a heartfelt ceremony in Alcorn County, Mississippi. Together, they shared 57 beautiful years, building a life filled with laughter and devotion until his passing in 2006. Audrey found love again in 2009, marrying Ermol Blackwell, who too preceded her in death, leaving behind enduring memories of joy and companionship.
Audrey's legacy is lovingly carried forward by her son, Stephen W. Fitzgerald, and his wife Carol, who reside in the picturesque landscapes of Brown County. She was a proud and devoted grandmother to Lisa Lewis and Sam Fitzgerald, who, alongside their spouses Joel and Carly, blessed Audrey with seven vibrant great-grandchildren: Cole, Nathan, Noah, Brayden, and Bradley. Each grandchild and great-grandchild was a brilliant light in her life, and she cherished every moment spent with them.
An alumna of Franklin High School, Audrey dedicated 32 years to the Housekeeping Department of Seasons Lodge in Nashville, retiring in 2003. Her commitment and work ethic were admired by all who knew her. Beyond her professional life, Audrey enriched her days with her faith and community. She was a faithful member of the Fellowship Baptist Church in Trafalgar and an active participant at the Hickory Ridge Senior Center in Brown County. Her love for reading Christian literature, enjoying the excitement of game shows, and her passion for gardening, cooking, and baking were well-known to her friends and family.
Audrey's life was a testament to love, faith, and family. Her gentle spirit touched all who knew her, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of her loved ones. Her journey on this earth was filled with grace and warmth, and she will forever be remembered for her kind heart and nurturing soul.
A private ceremony will be held to honor Audrey's life and legacy, providing a moment of reflection and celebration for her family. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Audrey's memory to the Fellowship Baptist Church, a place that held significant meaning in her life.
As we say goodbye to Audrey, we hold close the memories of her laughter, her unwavering faith, and the love she so generously shared. Though she is no longer with us, her spirit will continue to light our paths and warm our hearts.
