June 5, 1945 — February 13, 2026
It is with deep sorrow and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Artis Chester on February 13, 2026, at the age of 80. Born on June 5, 1945, in the sun-drenched state of Florida, Artis was the beloved daughter of Arthur and Jewel Lawrence, who instilled in her the values of kindness, resilience, and a love for learning that would guide her throughout her life.
Artis grew up in a close-knit community and graduated from Clewiston High School, where she first discovered her passion for teaching and nurturing young minds. She pursued her calling at the University of Miami, earning a teaching degree that would serve as the foundation for a remarkable 20-year career at Beach Elementary School. As a dedicated educator, Artis touched the lives of countless children, sparking their imaginations and encouraging them to dream beyond the stars.
On June 27, 1976, Artis married the love of her life, Artis Henderson, in a union marked by laughter, adventure, and unwavering support. Together, they built a life filled with cherished moments, shared dreams, and a legacy of love that will continue to inspire all who knew them.
Artis was known for her free spirit, a quality that endeared her to friends, family, and students alike. Her vibrant personality and infectious enthusiasm for life were evident in every room she entered, leaving an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to cross her path. Whether she was exploring the natural beauty of her beloved Florida or sharing stories with her grandchildren, Artis approached life with a zest that reminded everyone of the joy found in simple pleasures.
Artis is survived by her devoted husband, Artis Henderson, and their three beloved grandchildren, who were the light of her life and the proud recipients of her boundless love and wisdom. Her legacy also lives on in the hearts of the many students she nurtured and the countless friends she made along her journey.
Though Artis is no longer with us, her spirit will forever remain a guiding light, reminding us to embrace life with passion, to teach with patience, and to love unconditionally. As we bid farewell to a remarkable woman, we celebrate the beautiful tapestry of memories she wove into our lives.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Artis Chester's name to a charity supporting education, ensuring that her love for teaching continues to inspire future generations.
A memorial service will be held to honor Artis's extraordinary life on a date to be announced, where family, friends, and former students are invited to share in the celebration of her legacy.
Artis Chester will be deeply missed but never forgotten, as her spirit continues to soar in the hearts of those who loved her. May she rest in eternal peace, surrounded by the warmth of her cherished memories.
