Born on November 6, 1956, in Rockaway Beach, NY, Arthur, affectionately known as Artie to those who cherished him, lived a life that was as vibrant and dynamic as the ocean waves he loved so dearly. The son of the late Arthur and Betty Cholakis, Artie was nurtured in a family that valued compassion, education, and the beauty of the natural world. He was predeceased by his parents, Arthur and Betty, but is survived by his devoted siblings, Mariann, Gena, and John, who will forever hold his memory close to their hearts. Arthur's academic path led him to Fordham University, where he developed a lifelong passion for learning and teaching. His career with the New York City Board of Education, particularly within the Homebound Instruction program, was a testament to his dedication to empowering others through education. Artie's colleagues and students remember him not only for his unwavering commitment but also for the kindness and patience he extended to all. An avid swimmer, surfer, and kayaker, Artie's love for the ocean was evident in every facet of his life. He was an accomplished marathon swimmer, a feat that saw him circle the island of Manhattan on several occasions. His adventurous spirit even led him to attempt the grueling swim across the English Channel. The ocean was his second home, a place where he found peace and challenge in equal measure. Music was another passion of Arthur's. Gifted with the ability to play several instruments, he found joy in creating melodies that resonated with his soul. Whether by the sea or with a song, Artie's spirit was one of unyielding vibrancy and warmth. In honor of Arthur's love for the ocean and his dedication to education, the family kindly requests that donations be made in his memory to organizations supporting ocean conservation or educational programs, ensuring that his legacy continues to inspire and nurture future generations. Arthur P. Cholakis will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His life was a testament to the power of passion, dedication, and love, leaving an indelible mark on the world and in the hearts of those he touched.
