Arthur “Art” Jacobson, a man whose life was a testament to courage, love, and laughter, passed away peacefully at home on May 12, 2026, surrounded by the warmth of his beloved wife, Donna Jacobson. Born on February 3rd 1947, Art’s journey through life was marked by resilience, humor, and an unwavering dedication to those he loved. The eldest son of Hayden Rowe and Rose Jacobson, Art grew up in Kewanee, Illinois, where he graduated from Wethersfield High School in 1966. His early years were spent in the company of his siblings, Kathy Gillespie (Leigh), Ernie Jacobson (Sharon), and Rick Jacobson, with whom he shared a bond that remained strong throughout his life. Art’s life was one of service and sacrifice. He served his country with valor as a Gunnery Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps, bravely undertaking multiple tours of duty in Vietnam and the Gulf War. His brother, Ernie, aptly described him as “a tough Marine, but a gentle civilian,” a testament to Art’s ability to balance strength with kindness. Upon retiring from the Marines, Art dedicated himself to helping others, actively participating in recovery programs for over 40 years. He was a beacon of hope and guidance for countless individuals battling addiction, his story of perseverance inspiring many across the nation. Art was predeceased by his cherished mother, Rose Jacobson, and his siblings, Michael and David Jacobson. He also endured the profound loss of his first wife, Barbara Jacobson, and their son, James Jacobson. Despite these heartaches, Art’s spirit remained unbroken, finding solace and joy in the love of his surviving family. In May 2022, Art found love anew with Donna Jacobson. Their marriage was a celebration of companionship and devotion, a bond that provided comfort and happiness in his final years. Together, they shared their home with Sparkie, a dog adopted from the Kewanee animal shelter, who brought endless joy and laughter to their lives. Art’s legacy lives on through his daughter, Julie Jacobson, and his grandchildren, Serena (Chandler), Anthony, Rylan, Aiden, Isaac, and Barbara, who were the lights of his life. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, each of whom held a special place in his heart. Known for his silly sense of humor, Art possessed a unique ability to bring smiles to the faces of those around him. His laughter was infectious, and his stories, often laced with a touch of mischief, were a source of joy for family and friends alike. Art Jacobson’s life was a rich tapestry of love, service, and laughter. He leaves behind a legacy of strength and kindness that will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him. As we say goodbye to Art, we celebrate a life well-lived and a spirit that will forever remain in our hearts. A memorial service honoring Art’s remarkable life will be held on [Date], at [Location]. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Kewanee Animal Shelter, a cause dear to Art’s heart. Rest in peace, dear Art. Your journey here may have ended, but the love and laughter you shared will echo in our hearts forever.
