In loving memory, we celebrate the life of Aretha D. Houston Williams, a cherished matriarch whose spirit touched all who had the privilege of knowing her. Born on August 8, 1950, in Miami, Florida, Aretha was the embodiment of grace, love, and faith, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of her family and the community. She peacefully departed this life on May 17, 2026, surrounded by a host of loved ones, as she had always lived—embraced by love and warmth.
Aretha was the beloved daughter of the late Coretta and Daniel Houston and was predeceased by her parents and two siblings, with whom she shared an unbreakable bond. Raised in a nurturing and faith-filled environment, Aretha grew into a loving, caring Woman of God, whose life was a testament to her deep faith and unwavering commitment to her family and community.
On June 27, 1968, Aretha married the love of her life, Ernest Williams, with whom she shared a beautiful journey of love and partnership. Together, they built a legacy of love, raising seven children who were the pride and joy of her life. Her nurturing spirit extended beyond her immediate family, as she was a guiding light to her 23 grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Aretha’s home was always filled with laughter, love, and the aroma of her famous Sunday dinners, where everyone was welcome at her table.
Aretha was a devoted sister to her five surviving siblings, with whom she shared countless cherished memories. Her nurturing presence and wise counsel were a source of strength and inspiration to her family and friends. She had an innate ability to make everyone feel special, valued, and loved, a gift she shared generously throughout her life.
Her life’s work was a testament to her deep and abiding faith. Aretha was a devoted member of My Calvary Baptist Church, where she served tirelessly and faithfully for many years. Her compassionate heart and steadfast devotion to her faith community were evident in all she did, inspiring those around her to live with purpose and love.
A celebration of Aretha’s life will be held at My Calvary Baptist Church, located at 1140 NW 62nd St, Miami, Florida, 33150. Family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by Aretha are invited to join in honoring her remarkable life and legacy. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the church’s community outreach programs, reflecting Aretha’s lifelong commitment to helping those in need.
Aretha D. Houston Williams will be remembered as a beacon of love, a pillar of strength, and a true Woman of God. Her legacy of love, faith, and compassion will forever reside in the hearts of those she leaves behind. She will be profoundly missed, yet her spirit will continue to guide and inspire us all.
