April S. Massenburg

June 18, 1973 — October 12, 2026

April S. Massenburg, a beloved daughter, mother, sister, partner, and friend, departed this world on October 12, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, warmth, and kindness. Born on June 18, 1973, in Hampton, Virginia. April was the cherished daughter of Linda Bunn and the late Louis E. Bunn Jr. Her life was a testament to the power of a welcoming smile and a generous heart. April grew up in Hampton, where she cultivated deep roots and lasting friendships. She graduated from Bethel High School, where she made many cherished memories. Her early years were marked by an enduring faith, as a member of the Morning Star Baptist Church. April's faith and strength were constant sources of comfort and guidance throughout her life. Professionally, April was most recently employed with Huntington Ingalls as a Tool Clerk. Her dedication and work ethic were evident to all those who had the privilege of working alongside her. Yet, it was her vibrant personality, her love for fashion, and her sense of adventure in trying new restaurants that truly defined her. April had an innate ability to light up any room she entered, leaving an indelible mark on everyone she met. April's family was the cornerstone of her life. She shared a deep, abiding love with her life partner, Elias Galvan, and found immense joy and pride in her children: Kolby L. Massenburg (Troi Little), Jaylen A. Massenburg, and Kira-Lynn M. Massenburg (Tyler Berry), all of Hampton, Virginia. Her role as a mother was her most cherished, and she was blessed with two grandchildren, Onyx J. Berry (1) and Khale' L. Massenburg (3 mos.) who were the lights of her life. In addition to her immediate family, April leaves behind her beloved sister, Traci Alston of Hanover, Maryland, who was not only her sibling but also her confidante and lifelong friend. April was also dearly loved by a host of Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins who were dear to her. April's family was her greatest treasure, and she held each member close to her heart. Though her time with us was far too short, April's warmth, kindness, and generosity will continue to inspire all who knew her. Her legacy is one of love, and her memory will forever be cherished by her family, friends, and all who had the honor of knowing her. As we say goodbye to April, let us celebrate her life and the beautiful impact she had on the world. She will be dearly missed but her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who loved her.

I’m Free

Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free, I took His hand when I heard Him call, I turned my back and left it all. I could not stay another day, To laugh, to love, to work, to play. Tasks left undone must stay that way, I found that peace at the close of day. If my parting has left a void, Then fill it with remembered joy. A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss, Ah, yes, these things I too will miss. Be not burdened with times of sorrow, I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow. My life's been full, I savored much, Good friends, good times, a loved one's touch. Perhaps my time seemed all too brief, Don't lengthen it now with undue grief. Lift up your hearts and peace to thee, God wanted me now; He set me free.
