With profound sadness yet a heart full of cherished memories, we announce the passing of April Freeman, a woman who lived a life full of passion, love, and laughter. Born on April 29, 1975, in Castro Valley, CA, April was the beloved daughter of Armando Freeman and Sabreen Savage. April's journey on this earth was marked by her generous spirit and unwavering grace, qualities that endeared her to everyone she met. Her infectious laugh and compassionate heart made every room she entered all the brighter. Known for her quiet strength and deep kindness, April’s presence was a gift to all who knew her. A graduate of Laney College, April pursued her love for culinary arts and became a talented chef. Her passion for cooking was more than just a profession; it was a way she expressed her love for her family and friends. April’s kitchen was often filled with the delightful aromas of her favorite Puerto Rican dishes, and her table was a gathering place for all. April was more than just a chef; she was a community builder, a storyteller, and a friend to many. She lived life out loud, enjoying the vibrant sounds of loud music and the art of storytelling, which she famously admitted were only about half true. Her life was a tapestry of friendships, woven with care and affection, each one cherished and lasting. She is survived by her cherished children, Ameerah Devon Demetri and Azariah, and her six adored grandchildren: Jamir, Amir, Ariyah, Amina, Deandre, and Aya. Each of them carries forward April's legacy of love and laughter. April's family fondly recalls her proudest moments, not defined by diplomas or career milestones, but by the joy she found in life's little victories, like convincing her family she was destined to win the lottery. Her final days were faced with the same wit and humor that defined her life, reminding us all that death is merely an invitation to a much better, much louder party. A celebration of April's life will take place on September 26, 2026, at 4:00 PM. In accordance with April’s wishes, the family asks that no formal mourning or black clothing be observed. Instead, let us honor her memory by embracing the vibrancy and joy she brought into our lives. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in April’s memory to a cause close to her heart, supporting community kitchens or culinary scholarships. April Freeman left an indelible mark on this world, and her favorite quote captures her essence perfectly: “Why try to fit in when I was born to stand out.” Her spirit will forever resonate in the hearts of those who loved and knew her.
