Anya Tomeka Owens-Ray

June 6, 1980 — June 28, 2026

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Anya Tomeka Owens-Ray, a beloved mother, daughter, sister, and friend, who left us far too soon on June 28, 2026. Anya was born on June 6, 1980, in the vibrant town of Fayetteville, North Carolina, where she began a life filled with love, laughter, and adventure. Anya was the cherished daughter of Mary and Pervis Ray Owens Sr. Her light was a beacon in the lives of her family and friends, and her departure leaves a void that will never be filled. She is predeceased by her fraternal grandparents, Lorenia and David Owens, maternal grandfather Jim McLean, and her beloved brother, Pervis Ray Owens Jr. She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with her two sons, Jawan Owens of Fayetteville, NC, and Materio Owens of Charlotte, NC, and her two daughters, Noelle and Stelle Rich of Fayetteville, NC. Anya's maternal grandmother, Delphine Corbett of Philadelphia, PA, continues to hold her dear in memory, alongside her grandchild, Josiah Owens, and god-daughter, Kh'veah Corbett. Anya's presence is also lovingly remembered by her sisters, Anita Owens of Fayetteville, NC, and Charmaine Smith of Charlotte, NC, as well as her brother, Treyvon Owens of Roseboro, NC. Her extended family of aunties, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews, along with her treasured friends Charlie Davis, Frenzie Jackson, and Becky Sledge, will forever celebrate her spirit. Anya's journey in education took her to Lakewood High School in Salemburg, NC, where she began to shape the vibrant personality that would touch so many lives. Her career was marked by her passion for driving, whether it was an 18-wheeler or a city bus. Anya's love for the open road was matched only by her love for life. She was talkative and energetic, a woman who embraced every opportunity to travel, enjoy nature, and explore new horizons with her family and friends. Her hobbies reflected her adventurous spirit, from riding bikes and horses to embarking on trail rides that mirrored her free spirit. Known for her infectious laughter and the radiant smile that could brighten any room, Anya had a natural gift for bringing joy and light to those around her. She was a dedicated and loving mother, family-oriented and supportive, always putting the needs of her loved ones above her own. As we gather to celebrate Anya's life, we invite friends and family to join us at her service on July 9, 2026, at 1:00 PM. The service will be held at First Baptist Church in Roseboro, located at 412 Johnson Street, Roseboro, NC, 28382. It will be a time to honor Anya's memory, share stories of her remarkable life, and find solace in the love she brought into the world. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has offered love, prayers, and support during this difficult time. Your kindness and compassion have been a source of comfort and strength. Anya Tomeka Owens-Ray, though taken from us too soon, will forever be remembered for the joy she spread, the love she shared, and the beautiful legacy she leaves behind. Rest in peace, dear Anya, knowing that your spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know you.
