It is with heavy hearts and profound respect that we announce the passing of Antwon Baker, a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend. Antwon peacefully departed this life on June 21, 2026, at the age of 84, surrounded by the love of his family. He passed away from natural causes, leaving a legacy of warmth, resilience, and unwavering kindness.
Born on January 7, 1942, Antwon was the cherished son of Antwon Baker Sr. and Bernice Glenn Baker. Growing up, he was instilled with values of integrity, compassion, and dedication, which he carried throughout his life. He was predeceased by his beloved mother, Bernice Glenn.
Antwon's life was a testament to commitment and love. On August 5, 1967, he married his soulmate, Julia Baker, in San Bernardino, California. Together, they shared 32 wonderful years of marriage, raising their son, Jai Lanar Baker. Their home was a sanctuary filled with laughter, love, and the unbreakable bonds of family.
Antwon served his country with honor, dedicating four years to the United States Air Force. Following his military service, he embarked on a fulfilling career as a receiving clerk at the Kaiser Warehouse, where he worked diligently for 32 years before retiring in 1998. Antwon was a reliable and practical man, known for his fair-mindedness and gentle humor.
A man of many interests, Antwon was passionate about fishing, golf, NASCAR, and traveling. He found solace in the simple joys of life, whether casting a line on a tranquil lake or exploring new horizons on a family trip. His love for adventure was matched only by his commitment to his community. Antwon was an active member of the California NAACP and served as Captain of the Wadean Place Neighborhood Watch, tirelessly working to ensure the safety and well-being of those around him.
Antwon most enduring legacy is his family. He is survived by his devoted wife, Julia, and their son, Jai married to Carmen Ervin Baker He also leaves behind his siblings, Sandra Lewis, Avril Baker, Muriel Parker, Orlando Baker, Maurice Baker married to Pam Baker & Glenda Saffold, who will forever cherish the memories of a brother whose love knew no bounds.
A service to honor and celebrate Antwon life will be held on July 6, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the Chapel of the Chimes, located at 4499 Piedmont Ave, Oakland, CA 94611. Family and friends are invited to gather and remember the incredible man who brought joy and light to so many lives.
In remembrance of Antwon, his family offers a special message: "Live, Laugh & Love." These words encapsulate the spirit with which Antwon approached each day and the legacy he leaves behind.
