January 14, 1960 — March 20, 2026

It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for her life that we announce the peaceful passing of Antoinette Silversmith, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Antoinette left this world on March 20, 2026, surrounded by her loving family at her home, a place that had always been filled with warmth and love. Antoinette was born on January 14, 1960, in Gallup, New Mexico, to Joseph N. Yazzie and Marie Armstrong. She grew up in a home filled with love and laughter, shared with her siblings and later her own family. Antoinette's childhood in Gallup was the foundation of her lifelong passion for education and nurturing young minds. After graduating from Gallup High School, Antoinette pursued her passion for early childhood education, earning an Associate degree. Her career as a teacher's assistant, counselor, and bus driver for preschools and headstarts was a testament to her dedication to the growth and development of children. Antoinette's love for teaching and caring extended beyond her own family, touching numerous lives with her unwavering commitment and tender care. In 1986, Antoinette married the love of her life, Teddy Silversmith Jr. The couple's union was a beautiful testament to partnership and love, lasting for 33 wonderful years. Together, they raised two children, and Antoinette's nurturing spirit extended to her four cherished grandchildren: Cameron, Carmi, Cristo, and Caia Rios. Her family was her greatest joy, and she poured her heart into every moment spent with them. Antoinette had a zest for life that was infectious. She loved animals, particularly horses, and found joy and solace in riding. Her artistic talents were evident in her drawings, capturing the beauty of her surroundings and the spirit of her heritage. Her quick wit and honesty were legendary among those who knew her, and her generosity was a beacon of hope and support for friends and family in need. She was a member of the New Hope Pentecostal Church, though she often reflected on her Catholic roots, embodying the spirit of faith and community in every aspect of her life. Her spiritual journey was one of introspection and kindness, always guiding her actions and interactions with others. Antoinette is predeceased by her parents, Marie and Joseph, her brother Harold Eddie, her sister Charlene Eddie, and her beloved son, Mario Silversmith, whose memory she carried in her heart every day. She is survived by her devoted husband, Teddy, her son Matakai Rios, her treasured grandchildren, and her siblings Helen Shirley, Raymond Yazzie, Rita Silversmith, Sandi Eddie, and James Eddie. In honoring Antoinette's wishes, a private ceremony will be held to celebrate her life, allowing her family and close friends to remember her in a personal and intimate setting. Antoinette Silversmith's legacy is one of love, laughter, and unyielding support for those she held dear. Her memory will continue to inspire those who knew her, and her spirit will remain a guiding light in the lives of her family and friends. As we say goodbye, we hold on to the countless memories and the enduring love she shared with all of us. Rest in peace, dear Antoinette. You will be forever missed and forever remembered.
