It is with heavy hearts and cherished memories that we announce the passing of Anthony "Tony" Schmalz, who departed this world peacefully on March 22, 2026. Born on November 2, 1955, in Dickinson, North Dakota, Tony was a beacon of warmth and laughter, whose mischievous smile and infectious laugh left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
Tony's life was enriched by the love he shared with his devoted wife, Patty, with whom he shared countless adventures and years of companionship. Together, they built a family grounded in love and resilience. His legacy lives on through his cherished children: Angelica Schmalz, Tiffany Heflin (Levi), Samantha Greer, and Johnny Greer. His grandson, Treydan Heflin, was a source of immense pride and joy.
Tony was the beloved son of the late Michael and Hattie (Kostelecky) Schmalz. He grew up in a lively household in Killdeer, surrounded by the love of his parents and his siblings: Laura Brown (David), Raphael (Jackie), Robert (Brenda), Mary Brennan (Paul), Carmae Schmidt (Michael), and Steven (Debbie). He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Michael Schmalz Jr., and his son, Matthew Schmalz, whose memories he cherished deeply.
A proud graduate of Killdeer High School, class of 1973, Tony answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Army. His sense of duty and commitment to service was a testament to his strength and character. Following his military service, Tony pursued further education at the Arizona School of Real Estate and Business, where he honed his skills and embarked on a successful career.
Tony's life was filled with laughter, a testament to his vibrant spirit and the joy he brought to those around him. He was known for his ability to find humor in everyday moments and his mischievous laugh that could light up a room. His presence was a gift, and his memory will be treasured by all who had the privilege to know him.
Family, friends, and all whose lives Tony touched are invited to celebrate his remarkable life on March 27, 2026, at 11:00 AM in a service to be held at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, located at 49606 Highway 1806, Mandan, ND. It is a fitting tribute to a man who served his country and cherished the land and people of North Dakota.
As we gather to honor Tony's life, we remember the laughter, the stories, and the love he shared. His legacy is one of strength, kindness, and an unwavering spirit that will continue to inspire all who knew him. Though he is no longer with us, Tony's memory will forever live in our hearts.
