In Loving Memory

Anthony Richard Evans Jr
May 11, 1960 — June 11, 2026
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Anthony Richard Evans Jr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, who departed this world on June 11, 2026, his 66th birthday, after a courageous battle with illness. Born on May 11, 1960, in San Antonio, Texas, Anthony spent his life embodying the warmth and vibrancy of the city he called home.
Anthony was the cherished son of Anthony Evans Sr. and Delia Evans. He grew up alongside his siblings, Elizabeth Maldonado (Arthur Maldonado), Beverly Avila (Fernando Avila), Sandy O'Keefe (Steve Acosta), Rosalinda Ehlers (Ed Ehlers), Ray Cantu, and Regina Evans-Rubio (Randy Rubio), forming bonds that would carry them throughout their lives.
A proud graduate of John Jay High School, Anthony went on to serve his country with honor in the United States Army from 1979 to 1982, where he was stationed in Germany and later Kansas. His adventurous spirit, which he carried throughout his life, was evident in his willingness to embrace new experiences and challenges.
Anthony's career was as varied and vibrant as his personality. He worked as a handyman and in a food factory, where he was known for his dedication and strong work ethic. Yet, it was his passion for cooking that truly brought joy to those around him. Anthony loved nothing more than to share his culinary creations, delighting in the happiness and togetherness that good food could inspire.
Those who knew Anthony will remember him as a man who lived life on his own terms. He wasn't always one to follow the rules, but his adventurous spirit, quick wit, and big heart made him impossible not to love. His sense of humor and outgoing nature brightened every room he entered, leaving behind a legacy of laughter and love.
Anthony is survived by his devoted wife, Lisa Evans, and his children, who were his pride and joy: Jennifer Evans, Kim Pena (JR Pena), Claire Simpson (Alex Simpson), Stacy Bryant, and son Marcus Bryant-Evans. His love and spirit live on in his grandchildren, Alyson Lancaster, Anthony Pena, Aspen Pena, and his great-granddaughter, Briley Fleeman.
A service to honor and celebrate Anthony's life will be held on June 23, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Cabrera Funeral Home, located at 12823 Nacogdoches Road, San Antonio, TX 78217. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at Cabrera Funeral Home for their care and support during this difficult time.
In remembering Anthony, we celebrate a life filled with love, laughter, and adventure. His indomitable spirit and boundless generosity touched all who had the privilege of knowing him. Though he is no longer with us, his memory will forever be cherished by all whose lives he enriched.
