October 1, 1932 — February 14, 2026

It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well lived that we announce the passing of Anthony F. Carter, affectionately known as Tony, on February 14, 2026. Born on October 1, 1932, in Worcester, MA, Tony peacefully departed from this world, surrounded by his loving family, on a day that fittingly symbolizes love and affection. Tony was the beloved son of Anthony Carter and Emily (Daboul) Carter, who predeceased him, along with his cherished daughter, Susan A. McGinley, her husband William H. "Bill" McGinley, and his brother, Joseph Carter. He leaves behind his devoted wife and best friend of 58 years, Joan T. (Bresnahan) Carter. Their journey together began in 1958 at Saint Anne's Church in Shrewsbury, marking the start of a union that would be blessed with love, laughter, and an unwavering partnership. Educated at Worcester Boys Trade School, Tony specialized in printing, a skill that would define his career and legacy. Following his education, Tony proudly served his country with the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict, continuing his service in the Naval Reserves until 1960. His commitment to his country was a testament to his character and dedication. Tony took the helm of National Press from his father in 1946, steering the family business through decades of success until his retirement in 2003. His work was more than a career; it was a continuation of his father's legacy and a reflection of his own industrious spirit. A man of many passions, Tony was known for his quick wit and warm smile, qualities that endeared him to all who knew him. An avid golfer, he was a proud member of Pine Ridge Country Club in North Oxford. His love for skiing took him to the Worcester Ski Club, where he shared countless joyful moments with friends. Tony had a knack for puzzles and was an active member of the Italian American Victory Club in Shrewsbury, where he found community and camaraderie. Tony's life was enriched not only by his pursuits but by his family, who were his true pride and joy. He is survived by his three daughters: Nancy A. Carter of Texas, Judy A. Flanigan and her husband Mark of Shrewsbury, and Jill A. Keddy of Shrewsbury. Tony's legacy lives on in his eight grandchildren—Nicole, David, Emily, Erin, Alexa, Jake, Matthew, and Michael—and in the hearts of numerous nieces, nephews, and close friends who will cherish his memory. The Carter family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the nurses from Notre Dame Hospice for their compassionate care during Tony's illness. Their kindness and dedication were a source of comfort to both Tony and his family. A service to honor and celebrate Tony's life will be held at Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, located at 648 Main Street, Shrewsbury. In this moment of loss, we find solace in the profound impact Tony had on those around him and the enduring love he shared with his family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the Carter family invites you to remember Tony by emulating his kindness, sharing his laughter, and cherishing those you hold dear. As we say goodbye to a remarkable man, we hold him forever in our hearts.
