In Loving Memory of Anthony Blane Cato Sr.
It is with profound sadness and yet the warmth of cherished memories that we announce the passing of Anthony Blane Cato Sr., lovingly known as Tony, on September 29, 2026. Born on May 25, 1966, in Norfolk, Virginia, Tony spent his life embracing the love of family, the joy of simple pleasures, and the grace of a full heart.
Son to the late Franklin D. Cato and Frances M. Cato, Tony was raised with values that he carried throughout his life. He was predeceased by his beloved brother, Steve Cato, and his sister, Deborah Ross, whom he cherished deeply.
Tony's journey through life was enriched by the love he shared with his wife, Martha, his best friend since the seventh grade. Their union, spanning over fifty years, was a testament to enduring love and companionship. Tony often reminisced about falling in love with Martha at first sight, a love that only deepened with each passing day.
Tony was a proud graduate of Gaston College, earning both an Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) in 1989 and an Associate of Arts (A.A.) in 1990, followed by a Bachelor of Arts from Belmont Abbey College in 1994. His dedication to education mirrored his commitment to understanding life's deeper meanings, particularly the power of love.
His hobbies were as diverse as they were joyous. Tony's heart sang with the strum of his guitars, the nostalgia of playing with trains, collecting sports cards, and the vibrant energy of playing pinball. A fervent sports enthusiast, he was a lifelong fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pirates, Penguins, and the New York Yankees.
Above all, Tony's life was centered around love for his family. He leaves behind his devoted wife, Martha; his children, Ty and Christy, grand children Kailey and Christopher and his daughter-in-law, Regine. The laughter and love of his family were his constant delight. His love and affection extended to his cherished Chihuahua, Pouncy, affectionately known as Boo Boo, and his three beloved cats, Tom, Jeri, and Momma Kitty.
In his own words, Tony expressed gratitude for the journey of life: "I want to thank my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for allowing me this time to live and learn. I had to grow a lot from my youth, but God in His mercy granted me time to gain understanding of the most important thing, Love. I was blessed to share this journey with my best friend and wife who endured with me until the end. For that, I was truly blessed. I love my children, grandchildren, and all my fur babies forever."
In honoring Tony's memory, the family kindly requests that donations be made in his name to a charity of your choosing.
May we all find comfort in the legacy of love Tony leaves behind and cherish the moments that make life so precious.
