Anthony was the cherished son of Shewanda Allen and Anthony Bernard Mickens Sr. He grew up surrounded by family in Goldsboro, where he attended Goldsboro High School, graduating proudly in August 2008. Following high school, Anthony answered the call to serve his country, joining the United States Army. His dedication and leadership shone brightly during his over eight years of service, especially in his role as a Drill Sergeant. Anthony's commitment to his fellow soldiers remains a proud part of his legacy. In 2013, Anthony married the love of his life, Natia Powell Mickens. Their journey together began in youthful love, blossoming into a partnership filled with shared dreams, resilience, and a beautiful family. Together, they welcomed five beloved children: Josiah Powell-Mickens, Alerah Mickens, Anthony Mickens III, Alivia Mickens, and Pradigy Mickens. Anthony was also a devoted father to his stepson, Tylen Taylor, whose presence enriched his life. Anthony shared a special bond with his siblings, Shalinda Mickens, Jada Boyette, Deshawn Mickens, Shaquille Mickens, and Tamia Mickens, each of whom carries a piece of his spirit forward. His extended family, friends, and all who had the privilege to know him will forever feel the void left by his absence. Anthony will be remembered for his kind heart, his ability to connect with people from all walks of life, and a generosity that left a lasting imprint on those around him. His laughter, compassion, and unwavering support of those he loved are treasured memories that will live on in our hearts. A service to honor and celebrate Anthony's life will be held on June 8, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Veterans Choice Funeral Home, located at 211 S. Miami Blvd., Durham, NC 27703.
