Anthony [Ant} Leon Harris

Anthony "Ant" Leon Harris October 28, 1967 – August 27, 2026 Anthony Leon Harris, affectionately known as "Ant," was a man whose presence was larger than life. Born in Newport News, Virginia, he embarked on his journey of life with a heart full of passion and a spirit that left an indelible mark on everyone he met. Ant was the beloved son of Dannetha "Doritha" Turner and Rubin Jimmie Harris, whom he has now joined in peaceful rest, along with his brother Rubin Harris. He leaves behind a legacy of love through his cherished children: Matoyia Antoinette Harris, Anthony Leon Pettaway, and Najae Lamarr Harris. His legacy continues through his beloved grandchildren: Chrisean Leon Pettaway Davis, Chriseana Leonna Pettaway Davis, Christian Ajay'son Pettaway Davis, Anjel Miche' Pettaway, and Makai Nymere Pettaway. In addition, to his children and grandchildren Ant leaves to morn his siblings: Louise Harris, Linda Harris, Jimmie Harris and Lenette Turner. Ant was blessed with an abundance of cousins, nieces and nephews that will carry his spirit and memories that will forever live in their heart Throughout his life, Ant was a devoted family man, drawing strength and inspiration from his loved ones, you got from him what you gave to him unapologetically. His early years were spent with Kim Mixson, with whom he welcomed his eldest child, Matoyia. Later, he built a life with Kim Pettaway, resulting in the birth of Anthony (AJ). Finally, Ant's journey with Ramona "Mona" Grant brought forth his youngest son, Najae. Ant received his education through the Newport News, Virginia public school system, where he cultivated a strong work ethic that carried him through a varied and successful career. Known for his determination and entrepreneurial spirit, he held positions at Giants distribution warehouse, a magazine company, parks and recreation and construction It was in the world of carpet laying that Ant found his true calling, eventually launching his own business until an injury curtailed his path. Ant's life was filled with simple pleasures and profound passions. Whether he was around a card table or commanding a game of dominos, his competitive spirit was unmatched. Dubbed the best to ever play, he challenged anyone to contest his skill. A devoted fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Ant's loyalty to his team was unwavering. Music was his soul's language, and he channeled the energy of artists like 2Pac and DMX, often delivering spirited performances that friends and family will hold dear in memory. In his early days, Ant was known for his Kango hat and impeccable style which he carried throughout his life Ant's charisma was evident to all who crossed his path. He was a man of strong convictions, unyielding in his beliefs and unapologetic in his approach to life. Those fortunate enough to witness his lighter side knew him as playful, entertaining, and deeply caring—a man whose presence could light up any room. Anthony "Ant" Leon Harris was a man of immense love and resilience, whose life was tragically shortened by a senseless act. He leaves behind a family that will forever hold him close in their hearts, and friends who will remember his wisdom, humor, and unwavering strength.
