Annie Mae Copeland, a beloved matriarch and a pillar of her community, passed away peacefully on March 27, 2026, at the age of 79, after a courageous battle with breast cancer. She was surrounded by her family, who were a testament to the love and dedication she bestowed upon them throughout her life.
Born on May 11, 1946, in the vibrant city of Atlanta, Georgia, Annie was the cherished daughter of Howard and Susan Copeland. From a young age, she exhibited a nurturing spirit and a resilience that would carry her through life’s challenges. Although Annie was unable to complete her formal education, she was a woman of profound wisdom and strength, attributes that she imparted to her children and grandchildren.
In the late 1960s, Annie married the love of her life, Eugene Copeland, and together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and family. Their union was blessed with four wonderful children: Rebecca, Renee, Jessie James Duke, and Bernard. Annie and Eugene's first daughter, Sue Copeland, predeceased them, a loss that Annie bore with grace and fortitude until Eugene's passing in June 2002.
Annie’s legacy is carried on by her surviving children, 90 adoring grandchildren, and 75 great-grandchildren. Her family was her pride and joy, and she never missed an opportunity to celebrate their achievements and support them in their endeavors. She was a guiding light, providing love and wisdom, and creating a home that was always filled with warmth and welcome.
A devout Christian, Annie was an active member of the Calvary Temple Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend James Otis Jackson. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, and she found great joy in serving her church and community. Annie's commitment to her faith and her community was evident in her unwavering dedication and the countless lives she touched with her kindness and generosity.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at Jackson Memorial for the exceptional care and comfort they provided during Annie's final days. Their dedication and kindness will be forever remembered by those who were fortunate enough to witness their care.
A celebration of Annie’s life will be held on April 4, 2026, at 1:30 p.m. at Saint Paul Baptist Church, located at 1532 Long Bay Rd, Middleburg, FL 32068. Family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by Annie are invited to join in honoring a remarkable woman whose spirit and legacy will endure in the hearts of all who knew her.
