In Loving Memory of Annie Grace McCleod
It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, Annie Grace McCleod, who departed this life on June 14, 2026, at the age of 87. Born on January 30, 1939, in the charming town of Rose Hill, North Carolina, Annie was a woman whose life was as vibrant as the flowers she so dearly loved to nurture.
Annie's life was a testament to love, resilience, and unwavering dedication. Preceded in death by her cherished parents, Jonathan and Florence McMillian, Annie was a devoted family woman who leaves behind a legacy of warmth and kindness. She is survived by her two loving sisters, Shirley McMillan and Jeralene Merritt of North Carolina, who shared in the joys and trials of life alongside her.
Annie was the proud and loving mother of nine children: Samantha Foster of California, Wanda Gary of Virginia, Henry (Ruth) Williams of Washington State, Sonja (Bernard) Woodward of North Carolina, Bridget Griffin of Washington State, Jerry Williams of California, Harriett (Mark) Barnes of Nebraska, and Jamie McCleod of Nebraska. Her family was her greatest treasure, and she found immeasurable joy in their successes and happiness. Her legacy is further carried by her twenty-three adoring grandchildren, twenty-nine great-grandchildren, and one precious great-great-grandchild, each of whom was a twinkle in her eye and a joy to her heart.
In addition to her immediate family, Annie leaves behind two nephews and a host of cousins and friends who will forever cherish her memory and the love she so generously shared. Her extended family, both by blood and by heart, was a testament to the way she touched lives with her gentle spirit and boundless compassion.
Annie's professional life was marked by her unwavering work ethic and dedication. She was a respected and cherished employee at Walmart, where her colleagues admired her warmth and kindness. Her career was a reflection of her character – one of dedication, resilience, and a commitment to excellence.
Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, and she was an active member of several churches throughout her years. Annie began her spiritual journey at New Christian Missionary Baptist Church and later found a spiritual home at Friendly Avenue and Morning Star Baptist Church. Her service on the usher board was just one of the many ways she shared her love and faith with her community.
Annie's life was rich with hobbies and interests that brought her joy and fulfillment. She had a wanderer's heart and loved traveling, exploring new places, and experiencing the world around her. A gifted seamstress, she spent countless hours sewing and quilting, creating beautiful pieces that warmed both body and soul. Her love for music was evident in the way she hummed tunes while tending to her beloved plants, and her sharp eye for thrift shopping always led to delightful discoveries. Annie's unique collections of salt and pepper shakers, watches, and crystal figurines were a testament to her appreciation for beauty in all its forms.
Known for her soft-spoken nature yet bold and independent spirit, Annie was a beacon of love and strength. Her life was a testament to the power of resilience and the beauty of a kind heart. She inspired all who were blessed to know her with her unwavering spirit and will be dearly missed and forever remembered.
A celebration of Annie Grace McCleod's life will be held at a later date, where family and friends will gather to honor a life well-lived and a soul deeply loved.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in Annie's honor, as a tribute to her generous spirit and loving heart.
Rest in peace, dear Annie. You have left an indelible mark on our hearts, and your legacy of love will continue to guide us.
