With heavy hearts and profound gratitude for the life she lived, we announce the peaceful passing of Annabell James on June 8, 2026, in the comfort of her home, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on March 7, 1935, in Bristow, Oklahoma, Annabell's journey through life was marked by an indomitable spirit, compassion, and boundless love.
Annabell was the beloved daughter of Samuel and Emmaline Anderson, and she was predeceased by her devoted husband, Narvy James Sr., whom she married on September 4, 1954. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and family. She was also predeceased by her seven siblings and one grandson, all of whom she cherished deeply.
Annabell is survived by her five children, Dwayne James, Narvy James Jr., Ronald James, Dennis James, and Gail James. Her legacy extends to her 11 grandchildren and a host of great and great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, each of whom held a special place in her heart.
A proud graduate of Roosevelt High School, Annabell pursued her passion for helping others by becoming a Registered Nurse after graduating from Emmanuel School of Nursing. She later obtained BS and Master's degrees in Education from Portland State University, demonstrating her unwavering commitment to learning and growth.
In her professional life, Annabell dedicated herself to the Portland Public School System for 36 years, where she taught grades 1-9. Her influence extended beyond the classroom when she became the Principal at Portland Street Academy, working under the direction of Margaret Carter. Annabell's nurturing spirit led her to work with programs designed to find homes for foster children, embodying her lifelong dedication to service and care.
Annabell was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Gresham, Oregon, where her faith and community involvement were an integral part of her life. She possessed a unique gift for making everyone feel warm and welcomed, treating all she met like family.
An avid traveler, Annabell's adventurous spirit led her to explore the wonders of South Africa, Zimbabwe, the Bahamas, Botswana, Ghana, Sierra Leone, Hawaii, and Mexico. Her love for hosting family gatherings created cherished memories for all who attended, fostering a sense of unity and love that will be remembered fondly.
Her family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Russellville Park for their care and support.
As we reflect on Annabell's life, we are reminded of her boundless love, her unyielding strength, and her unwavering commitment to her family and community. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness and compassion that will continue to inspire those who knew her. Her memory will forever be a guiding light in our hearts.
