With profound sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of Anna Mae Britt, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished friend, on February 13, 2026. Anna Mae was born on December 19, 1935, in the heart of Newport News, Virginia, to the late William and Florence Lankford. She left this world at the age of 90, surrounded by love and the comforting walls of her own home. Anna Mae was a beacon of grace and strength throughout her life. She shared over 70 beautiful years of marriage with her devoted husband, Emory W. Britt, Jr., a bond that was a testament to their enduring love and shared journey. Together, they built a family rooted in love, kindness, and laughter. Anna Mae was the loving mother to three children: Martha A. Meadows and her husband Timothy of Yorktown, VA; Emory L. Britt and his wife Christina of Newport News, VA; and Darrell G. Britt and his wife Karen of Apex, NC. Her legacy continues through her five grandchildren—Timothy R. Meadows, Jr., Ruth A. Kesther, Dillon G. Britt, Brian M. Britt, and Allison M. Britt—and her five great-grandchildren, Katelyn, Benjamin, Ariah, Haley, and Oliver, who brought her immense joy and pride. Her warmth and generosity extended beyond her immediate family. Anna Mae is survived by her sister-in-law, Mary Frances Britt, and her cousins, Doug Britt, Diane Lankford Bell, and Sandra Johnson. Her family was her world, and she delighted in every moment spent with them, nurturing bonds that will endure through generations. Anna Mae was a proud graduate of Newport News High School. Her professional life began as a switchboard operator for the C & P Telephone Company, where her unwavering dedication and gentle demeanor left a lasting impression on both colleagues and customers alike. Her career was marked by a reputation for kindness, patience, and a smile that could brighten any day. A woman of remarkable personal integrity and compassion, Anna Mae was known for her unwavering support and loyalty to those she loved. Her kindness knew no bounds, and her home was always open, offering a haven of comfort and warmth to friends and family. Her gentle spirit and selfless love embodied the essence of a life well-lived. Family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by Anna Mae are invited to celebrate her life at a service on February 23, 2026, at 12:00 PM at Olivet Christian Church, located at 86 Maxwell Lane, Newport News, VA. This service will be a time to honor Anna Mae's memory, sharing stories of the love and joy she spread throughout her life. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in Anna Mae's memory, continuing her legacy of kindness and care for others.
