Anna M Murphy
December 7, 1953 — September 6, 2026
Anna M. Murphy, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 6, 2026. Born on December 7, 1953, in Portland, Maine, Anna lived a life filled with love, laughter, and generosity, touching the hearts of all who knew her.
Anna's journey was one of resilience and passion. She returned to school later in life, setting an inspiring example for her family by graduating from the University of Southern Maine in 1996 alongside her daughter, Sabrina. Her dedication to education continued as she worked in workforce development, where her greatest joy was helping students achieve their GEDs. Anna's commitment to others' success was a testament to her kind and nurturing spirit.
A woman of many interests, Anna had a deep love for Christmas, which she expressed through her beautiful crafts. She delighted in creating ornaments and headbands, but perhaps her greatest joy came from the hunt for the perfect materials. Anna's creativity extended to her garden, where she spent countless hours surrounded by the vibrant colors and tranquil beauty of her plants. The ocean was another of her cherished places, where she loved to spend time savoring the fresh sea breeze and indulging in her favorite treat—lobster.
In her later years, Anna developed a profound love for reading, finding solace and adventure within the pages of countless books. Her inquisitive mind and thirst for knowledge were ever-present, even as she cherished quiet moments with family and friends.
Anna's legacy is carried on by her three devoted children, Sabrina Cunningham, Chris Cunningham, and Heidi Bishopp, her cherished grandchild, and her dear brothers and sister. Her family was her pride and joy, and she found immense happiness in their company.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers from Andwell Home Hospice in Auburn, ME, whose kindness and support provided comfort during Anna's final days.
In accordance with Anna's wishes, a private funeral ceremony will be held. Those who wish to honor her memory may do so by remembering her in their hearts and, if desired, making a donation to a cause that supports education and personal development.
Anna M. Murphy's life was a testament to love, perseverance, and the joy of lifelong learning. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
