With heavy hearts and deep gratitude, we announce the passing of Anita Rogers, a cherished soul who left this world peacefully at her home on September 25, 2026, at the age of 66. Born on February 8, 1960, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Anita's journey through life was marked by love, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to those she held dear.
Anita was the beloved daughter of Howard Cunningham and Theresa B. Farer, both of whom predeceased her, along with her sister Vernice Scott. She is survived by her devoted husband, Anthony Rogers, and her loving son, Jamaal Jackson, and his wife, Stacy Jackson. Anita's family was the center of her world, and she took immense pride in being a special mother to Alexis Roebuck, Kwamaine Mathis, Dionna Melvin, and Towela Anderson. She also leaves behind her cherished sister, Robin Cunningham Gladden, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members, including her beloved grandchildren Talia Sampson, Myliyah Sampson, Nehki Melvin, and Tula Melvin.
Anita's family was not limited by blood; her heart was open to all. Among those who will forever cherish her memory are her goddaughter Aaliyah Sampson and great goddaughter Melody Bargman. Her life was enriched by the love and friendship of Willistine Burris, Chandra Scott, Kim Williams, Cynthia Zellers, Paula Folk, Joanne Minus, Benita Collier, and Hattie Turner.
Anita's educational journey began at Kinsey Elementary School in Philadelphia, continued through Ethan Allen Middle School and Parkway High School, and culminated with an Associate's Degree in Business Management from Peirce Junior College. Her career was a testament to her dedication to helping others. From directing Providence Maternity Home to serving as a case manager at St. Ann's Maternity Center, Anita's professional path was defined by her compassion for young women and families in need. Her roles at the Department of Public Welfare, PA CareerLinks, and the Philadelphia Corporation for Aging further showcased her commitment to service. She retired in 2025 as a Community Outreach Coordinator with Absolute Care Medical, having touched countless lives through her work.
Anita's faith was an integral part of her life. Baptized at Second Macedonia Baptist Church, she later became a member of Enon Baptist Church. Her spiritual journey was reflected in her actions, extending love and kindness to everyone she encountered.
Anita was known for her warm hospitality; her home was a haven of laughter, love, and delicious food. She was the quintessential hostess, welcoming all with open arms and a generous heart. Her passion for bringing people together was evident in the many gatherings she hosted, creating memories that will be cherished by all who had the privilege of joining her table.
As a foster mother, Anita opened her heart and home to those in need, providing not just shelter but boundless love and support. Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched, a testament to her selflessness and nurturing spirit.
A service to celebrate Anita's life will be held on October 10, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Second Macedonia Baptist Church, located at 1301 W Ruscomb Street, Philadelphia, PA 19141. The family kindly requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to a charity of your choice.
