Anita Pegues, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on August 21, 2026, at the age of 64, after a short courageous battle with illness. Born on March 2, 1962, in the vibrant city of Memphis, Tennessee, Anita was the cherished daughter of the late Thelma Pegues and Bennie Lewis.
Anita was a proud graduate of Melrose High School, class of 1980, where she forged lifelong friendships and began to shape the compassionate and loving spirit for which she would be known. Her life was a testament to the power of love and prayer, qualities that she generously shared with everyone she met. Anita had an extraordinary ability to touch hearts with her kindness and unwavering faith, always ready to lend her support through prayer and genuine care.
Family was the cornerstone of Anita's life. She was predeceased by her parents, Thelma Pegues and Bennie Lewis, and her brother, Anthony Pegues. Her memory will forever be cherished by her children, Ebonye Pegues and Joshua Pegues, who were the pride and joy of her life. Anita also leaves behind six adoring grandchildren, who brought light and laughter into her days, and were the recipients of her boundless love and wisdom.
Anita's legacy is carried on by her three devoted brothers, William Pegues (Betty), Gregory Pegues (Gloria), and Michael Pegues, and her loving sister, Jerline Williams. Her family circle extended to countless friends and loved ones who were fortunate to experience her warmth and compassion.
