With heavy hearts and profound admiration, we announce the peaceful passing of Anita M. Bentley (Hazell), who departed this world on June 24, 2026, in the gentle embrace of sleep. Born on May 21, 1934, in Booneville, Missouri, Anita's journey spanned 92 remarkable years, each filled with love, laughter, and an unyielding spirit that touched the hearts of all who knew her. Anita was the beloved daughter of the late Forrest L. and Thelma O. Hazell. She was preceded in death by her dear parents, her cherished sisters Juanita Edwards, Emilie Riddle, and LaVern Estadt, her loving partner LeRoy Day, and her children Kimberly Bentley, N. LaDean Folsom, and Michael Austin. Yet, she carried their memories and love with her throughout her life, a testament to the enduring bonds of family. Anita is survived by her devoted children, Lisa and Jeff Elliott, Danny Bentley, and Delores McMahel, who inherit her legacy of resilience and warmth. Her love extends to her 9 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren, who will continue to carry her spirit forward. She also leaves behind many treasured nieces and nephews, each touched by her kindness and humor. In October 1966, Anita embarked on a career as a bookbinder, a vocation she pursued with dedication and skill in various companies around the greater Kansas City area. As a proud member of the Graphic Communications International Union Local 235/16-M, she exemplified commitment and excellence, retiring in 1994 after nearly three decades of service. Anita was a true craftsman, a creative soul whose hands brought beauty into the world. Whether through oil painting, competitive ceramics, knitting, crocheting, or beading, her talents knew no bounds. Her creations were not just crafts but expressions of her vibrant spirit and love for life. Known affectionately as one half of the "Frick and Frack" team alongside her sister Juanita, Anita's humor and wit were unforgettable. Together, they left indelible marks on all they encountered, their laughter and camaraderie a testament to the joy of sisterhood. A celebration of Anita's life will be held on July 2, 2026, at 12:30 PM at Park Lawn Funeral Homes, located at 8251 Hillcrest Road, Kansas City, MO 64138. Family, friends, and all whose lives she touched are invited to gather in remembrance and gratitude for the life of a truly extraordinary woman. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to those who cared for Anita during her final days. The Rehabilitation Center of Independence and its staff, including Daniel Herrick, offered patience and care during her challenging moments.
