Anita Hodzic, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2026, after a short but courageous battle with stage 4 lung cancer. She was 58 years old. Born on August 23, 1967, in the picturesque town of Vares, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Anita's life was a testament to resilience, kindness, and unwavering love for her family. Anita was the cherished daughter of the late Marija and Ernest Gavran, who instilled in her the values of compassion and generosity that she carried throughout her life. Her brother, Zoran Gavran, remembers her as a beacon of strength and joy, always ready to lend a hand or a listening ear. Anita's warmth and infectious smile were a source of comfort and encouragement to everyone she encountered. In November 1997, Anita married the love of her life, Hajrudin Hodzic, in her hometown of Vares. Together, they built a beautiful life centered around their family. Anita's nurturing spirit and boundless affection were the foundation of a household filled with laughter and love. Her legacy lives on through her children: her son David Hodzic, her daughter Mirela Poljarevic and her husband Leo, and their daughters Leah and Mia; her daughter Danijela Abadzija and her husband Meris, and their children Ajdin, Ajmin, and Lana; and her son Dinko Bitici and his wife Sejla, and their children Lejna and Daris. Anita adored her seven grandchildren, who were the light of her life and brought her immense joy. Anita's love for reading was well-known among her family and friends. Books were her companions, offering her solace and adventures within their pages. Her passion for literature was shared with her book club, where she found camaraderie and joy in discussing stories with fellow enthusiasts. Those who knew Anita will remember her as a kind-hearted soul, always smiling and ready to help anyone in need. Her generosity and compassion left an indelible mark on all who were fortunate enough to cross her path. She was a woman of grace and dignity, whose life was a testament to the power of love and kindness.
