With profound sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Ella Hairrs Gregory, who peacefully departed this world on May 22, 2026, at her cherished home, surrounded by her loved ones, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on August 28, 1953, in the close-knit community of Silver Springs, Maryland, Ella graced this world with her warmth and kindness for 72 remarkable years. Ella was the treasured daughter of Melvin and Margie Harris, who instilled in her the values of compassion, resilience, and love. Her early life in Silver Springs was filled with joyful memories and a strong sense of family, values that she carried with her throughout her life. She was predeceased by her dear brother, Wilbert Harris, whose memory she cherished deeply. In a celebration of love, Ella married the late Jessie L. Gregory on September 25, 2002. Their union was a testament to enduring love and partnership, filled with shared dreams, laughter, and an unyielding support for one another. Though Jessie's passing brought a profound sense of loss, Ella continued to honor his memory by living a life filled with purpose and love. Ella's life was one of service, both in her professional endeavors and in her personal interactions. Her career was marked by dedication and excellence, but it was her role as a caregiver, mentor, and confidant that truly defined her. Ella had an innate ability to make everyone feel valued and heard, a gift she shared freely with all who crossed her path. Her home was a sanctuary of warmth and hospitality, where friends and family gathered to share in her laughter and wisdom. Ella's culinary skills were legendary, with her Sunday meals becoming a beloved tradition that brought together generations, fostering bonds and creating cherished memories. Ella's legacy is carried forward by her loving family, whose lives she enriched with her unwavering love and guidance. Her children and grandchildren were the light of her life, and she took immense pride in their achievements and happiness. Ella’s nurturing spirit lives on in them, as they continue to embody the principles she held dear. As we bid farewell to Ella, we celebrate a life beautifully lived—a life marked by grace, dignity, and an unyielding commitment to love. Her indomitable spirit and boundless heart leave an indelible mark on all who were fortunate to know her. A memorial service to honor Ella's life will be held at a later date, where friends and family will gather to pay tribute to a woman whose life was a beacon of love and compassion. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Ella's memory to a cancer research foundation, a cause close to her heart. Ella Hairrs Gregory will forever be remembered as a guiding light, a devoted matriarch, and a cherished friend. May her soul rest in eternal peace, and may her legacy of love continue to inspire us all.
