With heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived, we announce the peaceful passing of Angela Maria McAfee on June 4, 2026, at her home, surrounded by the love of her family. She was 62 years old.
Born in Bogota, Colombia, Angela was the cherished daughter of Pasquale and Janet DiTanna. She embraced her roots as her mother was from Manila and she lived in many countries due to her father being a Foreign Service Officer. She enjoyed the many different people she met and had that exposure and experiences to help shape her life.. Her father, Pasquale, preceded her in death, and she is survived by her loving mother, Janet.
Angela's remarkable journey began in Fairfax, Virginia, where she graduated from W.T. Woodson High School in 1982. She then pursued her passion for child psychology at George Mason University, earning a degree that fueled her lifelong dedication to nurturing young minds. Her career in child education was exemplary; she made indelible marks at various childcare centers, including the New Inova Fairfax Hospital Child Care Center, where she worked for 21 years. Angela concluded her illustrious career at Kiddie Country Developmental Learning Center, leaving behind a legacy of love, learning, and laughter. She made an impact on not only the children but with the parents that will last a lifetime.
In 1991, Angela married the love of her life, Kerry McAfee, and together they built a beautiful life over 35 years of marriage. Their union was blessed with two wonderful sons, Kyle and Cameron, and Daughter In Law Grace Patton. The joy of their lives multiplied with the arrival of their granddaughter, Savannah Rae, in 2025. Angela's family, including her siblings Thomas, Lucian, and Helen. Angela shared a special bond with Helen as she was more than
sister but also her best friend and confidante.
Angela was a beacon of positivity, even in the face of adversity. Her resilience and optimism, despite her long illness, inspired all who knew her. Her love for animals, especially her cherished cats and birds, showcased her nurturing soul. She found solace in her garden, where lilies, calla lilies, and roses flourished under her tender care, a testament to the love of gardening passed down from her father.
An avid baker, Angela delighted family and friends with her famous banana nut cake and chocolate cookies, sharing warmth and sweetness with every bite. Her infectious smile, kind heart, and unwavering faith in the goodness of people uplifted those around her, creating a lasting impact on everyone she met.
The McAfee family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the dedicated doctors, nurses, and caregivers who supported Angela during her journey. Her care was entrusted to Sentara Woodbridge, Inova Mount Vernon, Encompass Rehabilitation, Stone Springs Hospital, Reston Hospital, and George Washington University Hospital, where she was treated with dignity and compassion. The Staff at Capital Caring Health were wonderful and caring for her when we were finally able to fulfill her last wish and to get her home.
The interment of Angela will be held on Monday June 15th @ 11:00 A.M. at The Pavilion in Fairfax Memorial Park, 9900 Braddock Road. A celebration of life will immediately follow @11:30 A.M. at the Main Building of Fairfax Memorial Park 9902 Braddock Road in the George Mason Hall. Lunch and beverages will be served as we share our stories about our love of Angela. We will have a slide show and her favorite music. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Angela's honor to the American Cancer Society at https://www.cancer.org. and also to the animal rescue group Pets Bring Joy at info@pbj.org
As we bid farewell to Angela, we take comfort in knowing she is reunited with her beloved animals at the Rainbow Bridge and embraced by the warmth of the love of her father and her in laws Corky and Marvin McAfee. Her memory will forever bloom in the hearts of those she touched, a testament to a life filled with love, laughter, and an unwavering belief in the beauty of the human spirit.
