In Loving Memory of Andy Cobbs It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Andy Cobbs, who departed this world on September 26, 2026, at the age of 77. Born on July 31, 1949, in the serene town of Canadys, South Carolina, Andy was a beacon of love and kindness, cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Andy was the beloved son of the late Joseph and Cora Nesmith-Cobbs and was predeceased by his brothers, James Cobbs and Joseph Cobbs Jr., and his sister, Lynette Cobbs. He grew up in a close-knit family that instilled in him values of kindness, humor, and integrity. In 1972, Andy married his soulmate, Charlotte M. Johnson, in Trenton, New Jersey. Their union blossomed over 54 wonderful years, creating a legacy of love and devotion. Together, they raised three daughters. Andy's love for his family knew no bounds, and he took immense pride in his family. A proud alumnus of Walterboro County public schools, Andy’s passion for automobiles led him to technical college, where he earned his CDL license. He served both in the Peace Corps and the US Army, a testament to his dedication and service to others. Professionally, Andy excelled as a cross-country truck driver after relocating from New Jersey to South Carolina, and later brought his talents to Richland County School District Two as a Security Officer until his retirement. Andy’s love for cars was more than a hobby; it was a lifelong passion. Known fondly as everyone’s favorite mechanic, he delighted in working on cars and attending drag strips and race car shows. His enthusiasm for fishing, music, cooking, traveling, and spending time with his grandchildren made him a cherished presence in their lives. Andy's quick wit, warm smile, and generous spirit made him a friend to all, always ready with a joke to brighten a day. He leaves behind his loving wife Charlotte Johnson-Cobbs, his three daughters: Shatonya "Shay" (Dirik) Carter of Blythewood, SC, Charlene Cobbs of Columbia, SC, and Andrea (Steve) Cobbs-Patterson of Columbia, SC, six grandchildren: Chenae Carter, Aiyana (Jackson) Martinez, Antonio Cobbs-Furtick, Niyah Cobbs-Patterson, Ashley Patterson, and Alicia Patterson, as well as his four great-grandchildren: Ashyia Stevenson, Aaliyah Stevenson, Juliana Martinez, and Jordyn Martinez, all from Columbia, SC, his siblings Sadye (Elliott) Mitchell, Rodney (Denise) Cobbs, Nathaniel Cobbs, and Robert Lee Cobbs, alongside a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins, close relatives, and friends. The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude for the outpouring of love, condolences, and prayers during this difficult time. Your support has been a source of great comfort. A special thank you is extended to his caregiver, James "Jay" Tindal, Koger Home Care, LLC, Vital Care EMS Transport Staff, Innovative Renal Care, Lexington Community Hospice House - Agape Care, and Lexington Medical Center for their compassionate care.
