Andrew "Doug" Smith

Andrew "Doug" Smith, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 28, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, and wisdom that will forever inspire those he touched. Born on March 25, 1964, in Jonesboro, Louisiana, Doug was the beloved son of Melvin Evans and Mary Lee Johnson. From a young age, Doug demonstrated an innate sense of integrity and a profound desire to mentor and support others, traits that would define his life and career. Doug's educational journey took him from the classrooms of Saline, Louisiana, to Houston Community College, and ultimately to Biblical Christian Theology, where he earned a Master's in Theology. His commitment to his faith was unwavering, and he dedicated his life to sharing the teachings and love of God with all who sought his guidance. Doug is survived by his loving wife, Shawnda Smith, who stood by his side throughout life's triumphs and challenges. Together, they nurtured a beautiful family that includes seven children: Tanisha Smith, Marcus Smith, Kelsha Bass, Kameron Bass, Skylar Green, Christopher Soto Smith, and Crystal Soto Smith. Doug was a proud and devoted grandfather to 19 grandchildren, each of whom brought immense joy to his life. He is also survived by his siblings, Jerry Jackson, Erma Jackson Clemons (Ray), Lemelle Taylor (Nate), Belinda Lard, Jaime Lard, Sharon Lard Jackmon (Steven), Latonya Evans Shackleford (Eric), Jeanie Lard Williams (Jeremiah), and Dexter Lard, as well as a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and dear friends who will all miss his presence deeply. Doug was predeceased by his parents, his grandparents Claudie Johnson and LD Johnson Sr., Ben and Marie Evans, Uncle LD Johnson Jr., Uncle Charles Johnson, Brother Charles Evans, Aunt Glory Jean Johnson, and Aunt Deborah Evans. His family takes comfort in the knowledge that he is now reunited with those he loved and lost, and that he is surrounded by the light of God's presence. Doug's life will be celebrated at a service at 11:00 AM at The Abundant Life Church, located at 618 Ben Drive, Natchitoches, LA. As we gather to honor his memory, we take solace in knowing that Doug's legacy of faith, hope, and love will continue to inspire all who knew him. His wisdom and guidance will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of those he touched. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Doug's memory to a cause close to his heart. As we say goodbye, we find comfort in knowing that we will see him again in the presence of the Lord.
