It is with profound sadness and love that we announce the passing of Andre William Payne, who departed this life unexpectedly and peacefully in his sleep on May 8, 2026, at the age of 58. Andre was born on August 11, 1967, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Brenda Carol Payne and the late James Adams.
Andre was a beacon of warmth and kindness, known for his gregarious nature and his ability to light up any room with his infectious smile and genuine interest in others. Throughout his life, he carried a heart full of compassion and a spirit that never wavered, even in the face of adversity.
Andre's early years were shaped by the love and guidance of his devoted mother, Brenda, and his cherished grandfather, William Payne. He fondly remembered attending wrestling matches with his mother, cheering for his favorite wrestler, Andre the Giant. His passion for sports was unwavering, with the Philadelphia Eagles holding a special place in his heart. Listening to sports radio was a daily ritual, and he never missed an opportunity to engage in lively discussions about his beloved Eagles.
Educated through the Philadelphia Parochial and Parochial Schools, Andre furthered his training in welding through the Job Corps Program in Maryland. He embarked on a fulfilling career with the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA), where he dedicated 27 years of exceptional service. From his initial days as a conductor on the Regional Rail to his years operating buses and trolleys, Andre's career allowed him to connect with people from all walks of life, enriching his world with stories and experiences that he cherished deeply.
Despite battling severe diabetes, which led to the amputation of his leg in 2014 and diminished his vision, Andre's resilience never faltered. He became a beloved resident at the Providence Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center in Yeadon, Pennsylvania, where his presence uplifted those around him.
Andre was predeceased by his father, James Adams; his grandparents, William and Marieda Payne; and his Uncle Alfred Barlow. He leaves behind his devoted mother, Brenda Payne, of Blacklick, Ohio; his special Aunt Betty Payne of Reynoldsburg, Ohio; Uncle Kenneth (Cheryl) LaMar; first cousins Michele (Tony) Thomas, Carolyn (Craig) Groves, and Dana Barlow; special friend Sharon Allen; close friend Ricky Hughes; and a host of relatives and lifelong family friends who will forever hold his memory in their hearts.
Andre's favorite foods, his grandmother's fried chicken and Aunt Betty's potato salad, were reminders of the love and warmth of family gatherings. His personable nature and ability to engage in conversation made him a cherished friend to many, and his stories were always a source of joy and laughter.
A service to honor Andre's life will be held on June 4, 2026, at Caliman Funeral Services. The family extends their deepest gratitude for the prayers, love, and support received during this time of bereavement. Andre William Payne will be remembered as a man of great character and warmth, whose legacy of kindness and resilience will forever inspire those who knew and loved him.
