August 18, 1960 — May 19, 2026

It is with deep sorrow yet profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Andre Thomas, a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, who departed this world on May 19, 2026, at the age of 65. Andre passed away peacefully from chronic congestive heart failure, having bravely faced a heart functioning at just 9% for his final days. His journey ended at a place of love and warmth, surrounded by those who cherished him most. Born on August 18, 1960, in St. Louis, Missouri, Andre was the treasured son of the late Mary and James Prater. His journey through life was marked by resilience and love, qualities he inherited and shared generously with all who crossed his path. Andre was preceded in death by his dear sister Sue, mother Mary, brother Angelo, niece Marie, and nephew DeAndre. He now joins them in eternal peace. Andre's spirit and zest for life continue to live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind, including his loving wife, Stacey, and their devoted stepson, James. He also leaves behind siblings Micheal, Dorothy, Nicole, Pumpkin, and Chuck, alongside a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, extended family, and countless friends who were touched by his kindness. Andre's life took a beautiful turn when he met Stacey Glenn in June 1995, following the passing of her mother, in East Cleveland, Ohio, where he lived next door to his sister. Their serendipitous meeting blossomed into a loving relationship, culminating in marriage in March 2010. Andre warmly embraced fatherhood by adopting Stacey's then 6-year-old son, James, and together, they built a family rooted in love and mutual respect over 31 cherished years. Andre's life was a testament to the power of love, loyalty, and laughter. His quick wit and warm smile could light up any room, and he was always armed with a joke to brighten someone's day. Though he faced challenges with his health, beginning with a pacemaker installation in 2018, Andre's indomitable spirit never wavered. He remained steadfast in his dedication to helping others, always ready to lend a hand or offer support to friends and family whenever needed. Education played a significant role in Andre's life, as he attended various schools in East Cleveland, Ohio, from elementary through high school. Despite not graduating, his wisdom and life lessons were unmatched, and his kindness and generosity left an indelible mark on all who knew him. Andre's passion for life extended into his love for basketball, football, traveling, and spending time with those he cared for. His unwavering commitment to service and his ability to make everyone feel welcome and valued are legacies that will continue to inspire and uplift. A memorial service to celebrate Andre's life will be held on June 19, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. at Slone Company Funeral Home, located at 4530 Industrial Parkway, Cleveland, Ohio 44135. For those unable to attend in person, a livestream will be available near W150th and Puritas. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Slone Company Funeral Home for their compassionate support during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that acts of kindness be performed in Andre's memory, reflecting the boundless love and generosity he shared throughout his life. May his spirit guide us in the way we live and love, and may his memory be a blessing to all.
