Ana Maria Olavarria

July 9, 1943 — October 30, 2026

Ana Maria Olavarria, a beloved matriarch, compassionate friend, and cherished community member, passed away peacefully on October 30, 2026, after a courageous battle with liver failure. Born on July 9, 1943, in the vibrant town of San Sebastian, Puerto Rico, Ana was the daughter of Jose Rodriguez Guivas and Rosa Hernandez Rodriguez. Her parents, along with siblings Gloria, Jose Luis, Carmen, Wilfredo, Eneida, Elba Iris Rodriguez, Jose A. Rodriguez, and Israel Rodriguez-Hernandez, preceded her in death. Ana's journey through life was marked by resilience, love, and an unwavering commitment to her family. She was first and foremost a devoted mother, raising her children with warmth, wisdom, and an enduring sense of humor. Ana's children—Edwin, Angel, Pablo, Reinaldo, Adrian Olavarria, and Evelyn and Jorge Lozada—continue to carry her legacy forward. She is also survived by three cherished siblings, Pena, Anibal and Haydee Rodriguez; as well as a host of grandchildren who were the light of her life, and one precious great-grandchild. Although her marriage to Pablo Olavarria ended in divorce, Ana found lasting companionship and love in her relationship with Jorge Lozada, which began in the 1980s. Jorge remained a steadfast presence in her life, providing support and companionship through thick and thin. Education was deeply valued by Ana, and she took great pride in overcoming challenges to learn English through Adult Literacy Education in Cary, North Carolina. Her determination was a testament to her strong character and inspired those around her. Ana's professional life included roles at supermarkets, rehabilitation facilities, and finally at Whole Foods Supermarket, where her exceptional work ethic shone brightly for two decades until illness forced her retirement. Ana's vibrant spirit was nourished by her love for music and nature. She found joy in taking walks in the park and spending cherished moments with her grandchildren. Her generosity and kindness knew no bounds; she was always ready to help anyone in need, offering the proverbial "shirt off her back." Among her children, George held a special place in her heart, though her love for all her children was boundless and unconditional. A funeral service to honor Ana's remarkable life will be held on November 4, 2026, at 12:00 PM at Saint Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, located at 804 High House Rd., Cary, NC 27513. The family will receive friends 6pm - 8pm at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 200 SE Maynard Rd., Cary, NC 27511, Tuesday November 3rd.
