Ana Canaveris-Leiva
May 28, 1955 — February 22, 2026
It is with profound sorrow and deep gratitude for her life that we announce the passing of Ana Canaveris-Leiva, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who departed this world on February 22, 2026, at the comforting age of 70, in her cherished home. Ana was born on May 28, 1955, in San Jose, Uruguay, to Carlos M. Canaveris and Elida Canaveris Peleaz, both of whom she has now joined in eternal peace.
Ana's life was a testament to love, resilience, and the unyielding warmth with which she embraced those around her. She exuded a welcoming spirit, always paired with a warm smile, making everyone feel comfortable and cherished. Her life was filled with unforgettable moments that she lovingly shared with family and friends.
Ana was first married to Eduardo Oscar Garcia, with whom she had two wonderful children, Ernesto Alejandro Garcia and Marianela Garcia. Her children were the lights of her life, and she found great joy in being a grandmother to Diego, Daniela, Roberto, and Eliana, who will forever carry her love in their hearts.
Later, Ana remarried, finding a devoted partner in Jorge A. Leiva, with whom she shared many beautiful years. Together, they tended to their home and garden, creating a sanctuary of love and warmth.
Ana's education at Licseo de Montevideo laid the foundation for a diverse career. She touched countless lives through her work at Burry Biscuit on Frelenhuisen Ave., Shoppers World on Broad St., Newark International Airport, and National Health. Her professional journey reflected her dedication and strong work ethic.
An ardent lover of nature, Ana found peace in bird watching and tending to her garden. Music and dancing were her joyful escapes, where she found an appreciation for life's beautiful symphony. Her appreciation for music was paralleled only by her appreciation for life itself, and she danced through both with grace.
Ana was active in her community, contributing generously to St. Jude's Children's Hospital. Her big emotions and even bigger heart were evident in her unselfish nature, always putting others before herself and ensuring that everyone had the best.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Jorge, her beloved children, Ernesto and Marianela, her cherished grandchildren, Diego, Daniela, Roberto, and Eliana, and her dear siblings, Daniel Canaveris, Graciela Canaveris, and Monica Young Canaveris. Her extended family, including nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and her entire family in Uruguay, along with the many hearts she touched throughout her life, also mourn her passing.
Though she has left this world, Ana's spirit will forever remain with us, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew her. Her love, courage, and strength are imprinted in our hearts, and her legacy of kindness and warmth will be cherished by all.
A private funeral ceremony will be held to honor Ana's life and legacy. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, continuing Ana's legacy of giving.
As her family lovingly expresses, she is "forever in our hearts, no matter the distance or circumstance." Ana departs leaving us with an abundance of love and memories, now resting in the arms of the Almighty God and reunited with the loved ones who have gone before her. May she have eternal peace and rest in Jesus' name. Amen.
