Reverend Amos King Jr.
September 15, 1956 — October 24, 2026
It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Reverend Amos King Jr., who departed this life on October 24, 2026, at the age of 70. Born on September 15, 1956, in Memphis, Tennessee, Amos was a beacon of faith, love, and dedication to his family and community.
Amos was the beloved son of the late Amos King Sr. and Essie B. King. He was preceded in death by his cherished wife, Josephine W. King, his brother Raymond King, and sister Madeline Britt. Together, Amos and Josephine shared a beautiful journey, beginning in their hometown of Memphis, where they were united in marriage.
A proud alumnus of The Booker T. Washington High School, Class of 1974, Amos went on to become a skilled carpenter. His craftsmanship was evident in every piece he built, reflecting his passion for creating and providing for his family. His true calling, however, lay in his spiritual journey as a pastor. He served faithfully as a retired pastor of LeMoyne Truevine MB Church and was a long-standing active member of New Mount Olive MB Church and First Baptist 1st Street. His commitment to his faith was exemplified through his role as Sunday School Superintendent, where he shared his love for teaching and witnessing about God.
Reverend King was a devoted father to his children: Timmie Waiters (Georgia), Wanda Waiters, Marcus King (Ann), Antonio King, Toshiba King, Eric King Sr., and Bobby Barrett. His legacy continues through his 19 grandchildren, including Gloria, Vernell (LaChrisa), Shawnisha, Ashley, Shontell, Ladarius, Cheryl, Andera, Andre, Markala, Marcus Jr., Jameri, Jaylan, Jadarius, Eric Jr., Hayley, and six great-grandchildren. Amos is also survived by his loving siblings Ronald King (Barbara), Rudolph King (Bennetta), and Shirley King.
Amos's heart was as vast as his love for his family, and he held a special place for his grandchildren, delighting in their growth and achievements. He was an avid Chicago Bears fan, sharing his enthusiasm for the game with those around him.
A service to honor Reverend Amos King Jr.’s life will be held on November 7, 2026, at 12:00 PM at New Mount Olive M. B. Church, located at 855 Porter St., Memphis, TN 38126.
