Amos Eugene Irwin

Amos Eugene Irwin, a man of unwavering integrity and heartfelt dedication, passed away peacefully at the Richard M. Campbell Veterans Nursing Home in Anderson, South Carolina. Born on April 5, 1946, in Danville, Virginia, Amos was a beacon of strength and kindness to all who knew him. Amos was the cherished son of the late Richard John Irwin, Jr. and Amelia Myers Irwin. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 21 years, Carolyn Laws Irwin, and his sister, Mary Ellen Switzer. His legacy is lovingly continued by his devoted daughters, Jennifer Irwin Richardson and her husband David, and Courtney Irwin Dalton. Amos was a proud grandfather to four grandchildren and a great-grandfather to five great-grandchildren, each held close to his heart. He is also survived by his siblings, Richard John Irwin and his wife Elizabeth, Sadie Irwin Johnson and her husband Winfrey, and Dorothy Irwin Pigott and her husband Jesse. A graduate of George Washington High School in 1964, Amos pursued his passion for business and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Virginia Tech in 1968. Shortly after, he honorably served his country in the United States Marine Corps, a testament to his commitment and patriotism. Amos dedicated his professional life to Belk Retail Department Stores, where he worked as an accountant. His meticulous nature and steadfast work ethic earned him respect and admiration from colleagues and clients alike. Beyond his career, Amos found joy in playing golf and cheering for Virginia Tech Football. He was a proud member of the Hejaz Shriners of Greenville, South Carolina, where he made significant contributions, especially through his volunteer work at the Shriners Hospital for Children in Greenville. His selfless service and generous spirit touched countless lives. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Richard M. Campbell Veterans Nursing Home and Patriot Healthcare Hospice for their exceptional dedication and compassionate care provided to Amos in his final days. In honoring Amos’s life, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children in Greenville, South Carolina, an organization close to his heart. Amos Eugene Irwin will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, his dedication to service, and his unyielding spirit, which will continue to inspire those who were blessed to know him. His memory will be cherished in the hearts of his family and friends forever.
