Amelia D. Rego

Amelia D. Rego, a beloved mother, grandmother, and accomplished professional, passed away peacefully on August 20, 2026, in the comforting presence of her daughter and son-in-law. Born on July 15, 1931, in New York City, New York, Amelia was the cherished daughter of the late Ciriaco and Annunziata (Di Georgi) Di Marcantonio. Her brother, James Di Marcantonio, also predeceased her. Amelia, affectionately known as Amy, was a remarkable woman whose life was defined by her commitment to family, career, and community. She married Joseph A. Rego on June 21, 1952, in New York City. Though their marriage ended in divorce in the early 1980s, they shared two wonderful children, Elizabeth (Daniel) Dynan and Joseph (Cheryl) Rego, who blessed Amelia with three adored grandchildren: Lindsay Rego, Danielle Dynan (Jeff Cohen), and Alex Rego (Molly). After her marriage to Joseph, Amelia found love again with her life partner, Michael J. Ring. Together, they made Naples, Florida their home, where they shared many joyful years until Michael's passing in August 2014. Their time together was filled with laughter, love, and adventure as they traveled the world and immersed themselves in the cultural richness it offered. Amelia's professional journey was equally impressive. She earned a Bachelor's Degree in Business from PACE University, which laid the foundation for a successful career. Her early role at Union Carbide paved the way for her ascent to Vice President of Training and Development at American Savings Bank. Later, she contributed significantly as a Course Leader at General Electric Development Institute in Ossining, New York, and ultimately ventured into entrepreneurship by founding her own company, RA Associates. Amelia's dedication to public service and community involvement was unwavering. She served as Assistant Town Clerk in Ossining, New York, was an active member of the League of Women Voters, and was elected to the City Council in Naples, Florida. Her passion for her heritage was evident in her role on the Board of Directors of the Italian Cultural Society in Naples. Her vibrant personality shone through in her hobbies and interests. Amelia was a gourmet cook, a voracious reader, and an enthusiastic traveler. Her creative spirit found expression in the art of sculpting, with several of her works exhibited at the prestigious Naples Art Show. Amelia's legacy is one of love, resilience, and inspiration, touching the lives of all who knew her. Her family and friends will forever cherish the memories of her warmth, wisdom, and unwavering strength. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Amelia's memory to the Stephen Siller Tunnel To Towers Foundation (T2T), located in Staten Island, NY. This organization was close to her heart and reflects her enduring commitment to community and service. Amelia D. Rego will be profoundly missed but her spirit will live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her.
