It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Alvin Tatum, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, who left this world on September 1, 2026, after a courageous battle with prostate cancer. Born on April 23, 1959, in Jefferson, Texas, Alvin was a beacon of strength and warmth, leaving an indelible mark on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. Alvin was the cherished son of Eugene and Rosemary Tatum. He is predeceased by his parents and his beloved wife, Hazel-Lewis Tatum, with whom he shared 43 beautiful years of marriage. Their love story is one of commitment and enduring partnership, a testament to the power of love and companionship. A proud and dedicated veteran, Alvin served in the United States Army with honor from 1977 to 2000. His service to his country was a source of pride, and he carried the values of discipline and integrity into every aspect of his life. Following his military retirement, Alvin continued to contribute to his community as a technical engineer at Blackburn's Syrup Works, where he worked for over 30 years. His dedication and work ethic were admired by colleagues and friends alike. Beyond his professional achievements, Alvin was a man of many passions. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life, such as fishing and spending time with his family. He was also a regular at the drag strip in Vivian, Louisiana, where he enjoyed the thrill and camaraderie of the racing community. Alvin's legacy lives on through his children, Alvin Tatum Jr. and Sherilyn Tatum, his four beloved grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren, who were the light of his life. He is also survived by his brother, Wallace Tatum, and his sisters, Janice Tatum, Ruth Jones, and Opal Beckham. Alvin's extended family, including numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends, will forever cherish his memory and the love he shared with them. Alvin's kindness, generosity, and unwavering love for his family and friends defined his character. He had an innate ability to make those around him feel valued and loved. His laughter, warmth, and the moments he shared with his family will remain etched in their hearts forever. A service to honor Alvin's life will be held on September 12, 2026, at 11:00 AM at St. John Baptist Church, located at 1149 Blocker Road, Marshall, Texas 75672.
