Alta Rae Monsen Madsen, a beacon of kindness and intellect, passed away peacefully on June 3, 2026, in a rehabilitation center following a serious surgery. Born on October 8, 1940, in Salt Lake City, Utah, Alta was a cherished daughter to the late Grover and Gene Monsen, who undoubtedly welcomed her with open arms.
Alta's journey through life was marked by love, devotion, and an unwavering commitment to those around her. She shared 58 wonderful years of marriage with her beloved husband, Dale Madsen, whom she married on October 30, 1968. Together, they wove a rich tapestry of life, residing in various states including Utah, Missouri, Mississippi, Virginia, and Ohio, and nurturing a family that became the cornerstone of her happiness.
Her family was the pride of her life, and she is survived by her devoted husband, Dale, their cherished children Mike (Teresa) Madsen and Frankie (Terry) Campbell, as well as her treasured grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Tori (Eric) with children Ezekiel, Elsie, and Israel; Leah (Joe) with children Avery and Allie; Dustin (Alexis) with children Kendall, Kendrick, and Kaiden; and Brandi with daughter Milani Lynn. Alta’s love also extended to her dear siblings, Linda (Dennis) Rowley and Debbie (Ron) Schmidt.
Alta's life was enriched by her dedication to education and her professional endeavors. A graduate of South High School in Salt Lake City, she furthered her studies at the University of Utah on an academic scholarship. Her career as a private secretary saw her serving two prominent businessmen in Salt Lake City, George Romney of Romney Construction and Dee Anderson of The Dee's Restaurant Franchise, where her intelligence and problem-solving abilities shone brilliantly.
A woman of many talents, Alta found joy in a variety of creative outlets and hobbies. She was an avid reader and a cherished member of her book club, who delighted in the outdoors, small gardening, and golfing. Her passion for sports was evident as she followed her son's football games, her daughter's ball teams, and rooted for the University of Utah athletics and the Cincinnati Bengals. She cherished every moment spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Alta's life was further enriched by her active membership in the LDS Church, where she served in many capacities, and her involvement in numerous women's clubs, including golf, dominoes, bunco, the Red Hat Ladies, and the Corvette Club. Her community was a testament to her unselfish nature and her commitment to serving others.
Known for her high intelligence, Alta had an extraordinary ability to solve any problem, always approaching challenges with grace and poise. Her kindness and sincerity touched everyone she met, and her unselfish spirit was a guiding light for all who were fortunate to know her.
Alta's legacy of love and service will be honored on June 12, 2026, at the West Chester LDS Ward, located at 7118 Dutchland Parkway. A viewing will commence at 10:00 AM, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM.
Alta Rae Monsen Madsen will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her spirit will forever remain in the hearts of her family and friends, serving as a testament to a life beautifully lived.
