Obituary: Celebrating the Life of Aloysius Anthony Nagele
It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for the life he lived that we announce the peaceful passing of Aloysius Anthony Nagele on March 28, 2026. Aloysius, affectionately known as Al, was born on July 4, 1930, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Alma and Aloysius Nagele. He left this world as he lived—peacefully and surrounded by love, at the Western Hills Retirement Village.
Al was a man whose life was a testament to love, family, and community. He shared 70 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Marjorie Roell Nagele, whom he wed on November 5, 1955, at St. John the Baptist Church in Harrison, Ohio. Together, they built a home filled with laughter, warmth, and the joyful chaos of ten children: Kenneth Nisly-Nagele, Debi Schmitt, Greg (Nancy) Nagele, Tim (Tina) Nagele, Jim (Betty) Nagele, Gerald Nagele, Diane (Jim) Clark, Donna (Mike) Griffin, and Jeff (Brenda) Nagele. Al's legacy stretches across generations, with 42 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren who were all touched by his love and wisdom.
A devoted brother to Janet Mortimer, Al also cherished the memory of his parents, Alma and Aloysius, and his dear siblings Emileigh Freese and ___ Nagele, who predeceased him.
Al graduated from Elder High School and proudly served his country in the Air Force. His career spanned decades as both a mechanic and a Service Manager, eventually leading him to open his own repair shop. Even in retirement, his passion for work continued part-time at Schultz Custom Walls. Al was a proud member of St. John the Baptist Church and the St. Leon VFW, where he found camaraderie and purpose.
A man of many interests, Al found joy in the simple pleasures of life—tending to vegetable and flower gardens with Marjorie, sharing his love for woodworking with his grandchildren, and opening his heart to conversations with anyone he met. Known for his quick wit and warm smile, Al never knew a stranger. His kindness and generosity left an indelible mark on everyone who had the privilege to know him.
As Al's health declined, his children devoted themselves to his care at home, ensuring he remained with his cherished wife. The family extends a heartfelt thank you to head nurse Debi Schmitt for her exceptional care and compassion.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to St. John the Baptist Church, in honor of Al's steadfast faith and commitment to his community.
Al's departure leaves a void that can never be filled, but his spirit lives on in the hearts of those he touched. His life was a beautiful example of love, dedication, and unwavering kindness—a legacy that will continue to inspire all who knew him.
May his soul find eternal peace, and may his memory be a blessing to us all.
